It’s the end of an era for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as it will officially be getting a disappointing update on PlayStation Plus on August 19. The service is constantly updating its catalog of games, and while many new games are added during this process, that comes with a major downside, with games being removed as well. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will officially be leaving the PlayStation Plus catalog on August 19.
It isn’t the only game to get the axe from the PS Plus catalog, but it is definitely going to be one of the most noticeable games to leave. While The Witcher 3 developers at CD Projekt Red have another major open-world game coming to the service, Cyberpunk 2077, it’s not going to fill the Witcher-shaped hole in fans’ hearts.

Witcher 3 Isn’t The Only Game Leaving The PS Plus Catalog
As of August 19, PS Plus Extra and Premium members will no longer be able to access The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for free, though they will, of course, still be able to purchase the game afterward if they want to continue playing. This feature is one big downside of the PlayStation Plus service.
Unlike Essential-tier games on PS Plus that, once downloaded, are yours to keep in your library forever, Premium and Extra games added to the service are only available for freeas long as they’re included in the catalog. They are never “yours” to keep, so to speak.
Aside from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the following games will also be leavingthe PS Plus catalog on August 19: Bugsnax, EA Sports UFC 5, Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker, RIDE 5, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, five different Sword Art games, Top Spin 2K25, and Vacation Simulator.
Out of this list, however, The Witcher 3 is easily the most iconic title to be taken down from the service. It’s especially disappointing considering PlayStation Plus has already removed massive games like GTA 5 from its catalog.
Witcher 3 Is Basically Being Replaced By Cyberpunk 2077 In The PS Plus Catalog
There Is A Silver Lining To Witcher 3 Being Removed
While it’s a huge bummer that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is being removed from PlayStation Plus, there is a bit of a silver lining in that Cyberpunk 2077 is now available on the service for free to Extra and Premium members.
Cyberpunk 2077 is CD Projekt Red’s other incredibly popular open-world action game that, despite facing some issues at launch, has become highly acclaimed over its lifespan. If Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t pique your interest as a Witcher fan, it’s also worth noting that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is often put on sale on the PlayStation store.
These sales are pretty common, and in fact, you can purchase The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt right now for just $10 before August 14, so if you’re worried about losing access to the game with the PS Plus catalog update, now is the time to go buy it outright.
