As a Fan of Transformers, I’m Dying To See These 10 Perfect Crossovers in the Films

When done well, everyone loves a good crossover. Contrary to what many general audiences who have only really seen the movies and shows believe, the Transformers series has done a lot of crossovers in the past, mainly in other forms of media besides film and television. Thus, it’s fun to wonder what could happen if audiences got to see some of these crossovers, and new ones, in the movies and shows everyone knows and loves.

As stated, there have been some pretty cool crossovers in the past—comic books, toy lines, etc., but there are other potential ones that would be absolutely perfectly fitting, as well. With how much the Transformers franchise has struggled in film over the years, maybe a good crossover is exactly what they need — they even have a potential crossover with G.I. Joe in the works, proving that Hollywood shares the same opinion. These are some of the best potential crossovers for Transformers that I, as a lifelong fan of the franchise, would love to see on the big screen.

Mazinger Z

One of the more niche crossovers the Transformers had is with the manga Mazinger Z (1972). Coming together for the first time in the limited manga series Mazinger Z vs. Transformers (2019), the two franchises ended up melding together very well. Initially being deceived by, of course, the Decepticons, the two squads of heroes end up battling, answering many fan questions of “who would win” among many characters. Eventually, as is typical, they all come together to take on the villains once and for all.

With how great the Mazinger Z anime was when it came out in 1972 (the same year as the manga), it’s clear that the Mazinger Z franchise can work on film and even television. Seeing Mazinger Z come to life alongside the Transformers on film would be so cool, whether it be animated like in the Transformers One franchise or the live-action flicks. This combo already worked so well on the page; who’s to say that it wouldn’t be great on screen?

Scooby-Doo

While it may seem absolutely ridiculous at first, there’s definitely a world where a Scooby-Doo and Transformers crossover works. The robotic franchise doesn’t typically delve into the mystery genre, so this potential combo allows the perfect possibility to expand the franchise to a genre they aren’t familiar with. The Scooby Gang is the best way to go about it.

Having already crossed over with Batman (multiple times), KISS, Steve Urkel, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Supernatural, and genuinely countless more, it would be absolutely no surprise for the Scooby Gang to meet up with the Autobots. The huge contrast between the two teams could provide a cool dynamic, with Mystery Incorporated taking care of the mystery side of things, helping the Autobots navigate that world, while the transforming bots take care of all the action. Even better, someone turn the Mystery Machine into a Transformer. It feels perfect once one thinks about it.

The DC Universe

There’s some cool history behind the potential of a DC Universe and Transformers crossover. It was unfortunately canceled, though, thanks to the New 52 relaunch around 2012. Thankfully, the team that was going to be working on it revealed some concept art for it (drawn by Phil Jimenez), so fans could get a glimpse at what it could have been.It featured images like Optimus Prime with a Green Lantern ring, flying with Hal Jordan and the other Lanterns, and Wonder Woman’s invisible jet turning into a Transformer.

If it couldn’t happen in the comic books, who’s to say the story can’t be revived for a massive blockbuster film? James Gunn seems very open to fun and wacky ideas for the DCU, so there’s a non-zero percent chance that this idea could have legs. The future for the Transformers in film is somewhat unclear right now, so maybe collaborating with DC could be the introduction to a new universe.

Star Trek

Star Trek is another franchise that has crossed over with the Robots in Disguise already. In 2018, much like Mazinger Z, it got a comic crossover titled Star Trek vs. Transformers (2018). When the Starship Enterprise intercepts a transmission that puts them in the middle of a Decepticon conflict, they’re saved by the Autobots, and an alliance forms.

Despite being released in 2018–2019, Star Trek vs. Transformers (2018) takes place in the old Transformers animated series universe and uses the style of the 1973 showStar Trek: The Animated Series. What a treat it would be to see such a love letter to these old franchises on the big screen, especially if it were an animated film, animated in that same 1973 art style.

Gundam

A Gundam and Transformers crossover feels like a no-brainer for the same reason Mazinger Z worked so well. Both are “big robot” franchises and would immediately mesh well. There are plenty of Gundam series that the Autobots could crossover with, meaning there are plenty of opportunities.

Just like Star Trek vs. Transformers, an animated film would suit this pairing perfectly. Blending these two franchises, animated in the style of the classic Gundam anime, would make for an incredibly exciting project and meld two fanbases that would pair perfectly. It may be a long shot, even if the two properties go so perfectly together, but if they found a way to adapt the story to live-action, it could genuinely be a legendary movie.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are another group of heroes who have had quite a fun time crossing over with some cool franchises in the past. They crossed over with Batman in the animated film, Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; they got a Naruto crossover in a recent comic book, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto (2025); and even had a run-in with the Power Rangers at one point.

Safe to say, it wouldn’t be out of the question to bring the turtles into the path of the Autobots and Decepticons. The two franchises have had light crossovers through toy lines in which characters from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were Transformer-ified, but there’s never been a story where they’ve crossed paths. With how big these series are, there’s no question that a potential crossover film would sell well, so someone get to making it happen!

4

Marvel

While DC’s potential Transformers team-up didn’t work out, the folks over at Marvel Comics were successful in doing so. In 2007, they treated readers to New Avengers/Transformers, in which they must come together as a war looms over the nation of Latveria. Being the New Avengers, the Marvel team was pretty unique, featuring the likes of Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Luke Cage, Wolverine, Falcon, and Ms. Marvel.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the largest, most profitable movie franchise of all time, with the Robots in Disguise not too far under it. Combining these two franchises would practically print money, bringing audiences out in droves, and it feels so obvious that they should do one. The synergy would also benefit both franchises, as they’re both struggling through a difficult path right now.

3

Fast & Furious

The Transformers, most notably, transform into vehicles. What other major film franchise focuses on vehicles? Fast & Furious. A crossover that fans of both franchises have been pitching and talking about for years, this one is actually well-justified, and like many others, feels like a no-brainer. One can only imagine Vin Diesel‘s Dominic “Dom” Toretto driving in the likes of Optimus Prime. There are tons of fan fiction and fan art out there that depict what this crossover could be like, and it honestly is super cool. One of the most popular ideas is bringing the Fast & Furious cast together with the Michael Bay iteration of the Transformers universe. The explosions, ridiculousness, and spectacle would be next to none and help both franchises get back into audiences’ good graces.

2

Power Rangers

Imagine this: Optimus Prime standing side by side with the Megazord, piloted by the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Together, they stand across from Megatron and a gigantified Goldar. The story pretty much writes itself. While they’re making a comeback on Disney+, the Rangers deserve a theatrical comeback, whether as the Disney+ franchise or by making the risky choice of bringing the 2017 Rangers back, since people have a lot of nostalgia for it lately.

Regardless of which Ranger team it is, seeing the Teenagers With Attitude come together with the Autobots would be the movie of a generation. The Power Rangers feel like the perfect candidates to take on the challenges that would come forth through the Decepticons’ meddling with, one can assume, Rita Repulsa.

G.I. Joe

G.I. Joe is actually a franchise that should be crossing over with the Transformers soon. A film was indeed announced last year, but, as of right now, its status is up in the air, especially after a new animated series was announced featuring both franchises. The G.I. Joe franchise fits in with the live-action Transformers movies pretty much perfectly, and was even hinted at the end of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

At this point, one can only pray they get some good news about this film sometime soon. With how uncertain things have been, hopes are high, but shaky. There’s no better time to cross these two over, as the G.I. Joe franchise has been quiet for quite some time, and if they want to make any kind of comeback, a Transformers crossover is necessary.
