While the 2025 Emmy Awards last night were all about awarding the best performances and TV shows from the past year, including major wins for the Apple TV series The Studio and the Netflix hit Adolescence, the star-studded award show also served up some cast reunions. In one of the most memorable moments of the night, Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham, aka Rory and Lorelai from the beloved coming-of-age series Gilmore Girls, which ran for seven seasons and ended back in 2007, reunited onstage in celebration of the show’s 25th anniversary. Together, the onscreen mother-daughter duo presented the award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series, and, most importantly, made longtime fans of the show hopeful for another reunion.
The ‘Gilmore Girls’ Reunion Showed Off Their Chemistry
Much like the funny and witty dialogue signature to Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, Bledel and Graham’s Emmy moment was filled with one-liners that made the audience chuckle. “25 years ago, a show called Gilmore Girls premiered and apparently took the season of fall hostage,” Graham joked in the opening line. The two then went on to reminisce about the show’s low budget, remembering a time production saved up all season to have snow in an episode, only for ER to wash it all away the next day. “They had[George] Clooney, they could’ve let us have the damn snow,” Graham joked.
Bledel and Graham then went on to praise their “terrifyingly lengthy scripts” for the show written by Sherman-Palladino herself. “[Without scripts] we wouldn’t know if it was day or night,” Bledel said, with Graham chiming in, “whether we’re inside or outside.” After that, they read out the nominees, and gave the award to the writers ofThe Studio. And while the spotlight shifted to the winners, Bledel and Graham certainly made an impact. After all, no matter how many years have passed, they still make a gripping duo onscreen, finishing each other’s sentences and supporting each other throughout, even in a one-minute reunion. Their star power together is palpable, and their appearance certainly made the case for another revival.
When Did Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham Last Play Rory and Lorelai?
As a reminder, while Gilmore Girls came to an end in 2007 after seven seasons, the show had a long-awaited revival in 2016 with a four-episode season, titled Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. The series, which was produced by Netflix, followed Rory and Lorelai as the mother-daughter duo fans know and love, but this time ten years into Rory’s adult life. Each episode followed one season of the year, titled “Winter,” “Spring,” and so on, and gave their characters some long-desired moments. Lorelai, for one, finally married her longtime love Luke (Scott Patterson). After resisting tying the knot for years, Lorelai and Luke finally took the leap in the season finale and get married in an impromptu ceremony in the iconic Stars Hollow gazebo in the middle of the night.
Rory, on the other hand, had a cliffhanger ending fans weren’t exactly expecting. While she’s still finding herself as an author, Rory is still seeing Logan (Matt Czuchry) despite him being engaged to a French heiress. In the final scene, as she’s debriefing with her mom after her wedding, Rory makes a mic-drop revelation. “Mom?” Rory says. “Yeah?” she answers. “I’m pregnant,” she says. With that said, it seems there are still plenty of storylines to continue exploring. After all, would Rory getting pregnant mean she and Logan finally get together? How would Lorelai be as a grandma? What about Emily (Kelly Bishop) as a great-grandma?
Safe to say, their reunion at the Emmys has continued to confirm what Gilmore Girls fans have known for decades: Bledel and Graham make for TV magic. And, with such an open end to Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, there’s no time like now to keep the story going. In addition to the upcoming documentary Drink Coffee, Talk Fast, in which Sherman-Palladino and Graham herself won’t be involved in, the hopes for a true show revival are bigger now than ever.
