Alicia Silverstone and Oliver Hudson Have ‘A Merry Little Ex-Mas’ in New Holiday Rom-Com Image [Exclusive]

The holiday season is just around the corner, and Netflix isn’t wasting any time ensuring its subscribers have all the Christmas-themed films they need for the occasion. This week, on November 12, their latest holiday-themed rom-com, A Merry Little Ex-Mas, will ride onto the streaming platform on a one-horse open sleigh carrying Alicia Silverstone and Oliver Hudson, who play exes having one last perfect family get-together before splitting for good. Ahead of the premiere, we’re excited to tease the messy plans they have in store with a brand-new image as part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event for winter film and television titles. It’s a shot of the former couple having a bit of fun in the snow, and maybe rekindling the connection they once had.

At the beginning of A Merry Little Ex-Mas, Silverstone and Hudson’s divorced couple, Kate and Everett, couldn’t be more inclined to separate. Kate is ready to move on and sell her house to start anew, though not before hosting one more family get-together with Everett and the rest of the family. Though they’ve grown apart, the pair want to remain a team, and their final holiday gathering is a chance to commit to each other as friends and enjoy the season with their kids and relatives while embracing Kate’s love of Christmas. Unfortunately for her, the plans are dampened when her ex brings a younger, successful date, played by The Good Place star Jameela Jamil.

Our exclusive shot of Silverstone and Hudson falling in the white fluff and laughing all the way is an indication that there’s still a bit of spark there between them, though. Speaking with Tudum earlier this year, director Steve Carrcompared the film to a holiday classic in the sense that Kate will slowly come to appreciate what she and Everett had, through all the jealousy and desire for change. “Like George in It’s a Wonderful Life, [when] something big happens to shake up your life, it changes your point of view, andyou realize the life you have is the one you’re meant to have,” he shared. Old feelings will certainly complicate their already messy holiday, though viewers will have to wait and see if the situation brings new life to their relationship.

Who Else Stars in ‘A Merry Little Ex-Mas’?

Silverstone and Hudson have each been busy in the lead-up to their Merry Little Ex-Mas. The Clueless icon recently appeared in Yorgos Lanthimos‘s latest darkly comedic trip, Bugonia, and took the lead in her own Acorn TV mystery series, Irish Blood. Hudson, meanwhile, landed on the green with Adam Sandler‘s much-anticipated golf sequel, Happy Gilmore 2. For their romantic holiday get-together, penned by veteran Grace Under Fire writer and producer Holly Hester, the pair and Jamil were joined on-screen by Melissa Joan Hart, who also produces with Paul Hart, and Pierson Fodé.
