A Strong Alien To Debut in DC’s Man of Tomorrow – Report

James Gunn and DC Studios are reportedly preparing to introduce a powerful new alien character in Man of Tomorrow. A new report reveals early details about the character’s role in the film and how she may impact the larger DC Universe moving forward.

Maxima reported to make her live-action DCU debut in Man of Tomorrow

According to Nexus Point News, Maxima is confirmed to appear in Man of Tomorrow as a secondary antagonist. Initial casting calls described a tall, warrior-like female character, prompting speculation about Wonder Woman’s introduction. However, James Gunn debunked those rumors, confirming that the character in question is Maxima.

Maxima, created by Roger Stern and George Pérez, first appeared in Action Comics #645 in 1989. She is the queen of the planet Almerac and initially arrives on Earth seeking a genetically compatible mate, setting her sights on Superman. In the comics, Superman rejects her advances, but she eventually allies with him and joins the Justice League.

In the 1992 Panic in the Sky crossover storyline, Brainiac conquers Almerac and forces Maxima to aid his invasion of Earth. She later betrays him and helps Superman lead a team of heroes to defeat Brainiac and Warworld. Man of Tomorrow will reportedly adapt elements from this storyline. Maxima will begin the film as an antagonist and later join the heroes.

Lars Eidinger will portray Brainiac, the film’s main villain. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult will reprise their roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor. The cast features Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. Reports indicate Milly Alcock may appear as Supergirl, alongside John Cena as Peacemaker and Jason Momoa as Lobo.

James Gunn will write, direct, and produce the film. Peter Safran will produce alongside him. The production team will begin filming in April 2026 in Atlanta. Warner Bros. will release Man of Tomorrow on July 9, 2027, following Superman (2025), the first film in the DCU.
