2022’s Highly-Praised Marvel Project Is Getting a Sequel

Michael Giacchino addressed one of Marvel’s most anticipated follow-ups during a recent industry event. The filmmaker confirmed that a sequel to his highly acclaimed Marvel special is officially moving forward, marking his return to the director’s chair for the next chapter in the studio’s horror universe.

Michael Giacchino to direct Werewolf by Night follow-up next

Michael Giacchino confirmed during Deadline’s Sound & Screen: Film event that his next project will be a follow-up to Werewolf by Night. The filmmaker said, “If you haven’t seen it, watch it. It’s on Disney+ if you still have that,” referencing his 2022 Marvel Studios Special Presentation. This statement confirms development on a sequel to Werewolf by Night. It also marks Giacchino’s return to directing within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The first Werewolf by Night was shot in early to mid-2022 and released on Disney+ during Halloween that year. Based on that timeline, production on the sequel could begin soon, with a potential release window around Halloween 2026. Giacchino described directing as his “original goal,” adding, “As a composer, it’s a very solitary thing. I missed that interaction with a group of people.”

At the same panel, Giacchino discussed his work on Fantastic Four: First Steps, revealing that he scrapped and rewrote the score before the film’s release. “I actually wrote a whole other score for this film that you probably won’t ever hear,” he said. “I just remember seeing it for the first time with the music and something didn’t feel right.” He noted that he wrote much of the initial score before filming began, developing themes for Galactus and the Silver Surfer early in production.

Giacchino’s comments reaffirm his strong creative relationship with Marvel Studios. He said Kevin Feige personally invited him to compose for the Fantastic Four Comic-Con presentation, which eventually evolved into full scoring duties.

Following this, his next directing role solidifies his expanding presence across Marvel’s cinematic and streaming projects.
