With over three decades of noteworthy performances under her belt, Halle Berry is an established figure in Hollywood who has also been a recipient of multiple major awards, including an Academy Award, an Emmy, and a Golden Globe Award. She found her breakthrough in the 1992 romantic comedy Boomerang, in which she costarred with Eddie Murphy, leadingto tons of acclaimed projects. One such production is the forgotten and undervalued critics’ favorite, Extant, which aired on CBS in the mid-2010s.

Created by Mickey Fisher, the sci-fi series premiered on CBS on July 9, 2014, and concluded after two seasons on September 9, 2015. Ten years later, it makes a triumphant return to small screens as it has found a new streaming home in the U.S. Starting August 18, Extant will begin streaming on Netflix, marking its first time on the platform, and only for a limited time.

In Extant, Berry portrays scientist and astronaut Molly Woods, who returns home to her family inexplicably pregnant after spending thirteen months conducting experiments in outer space on a solo mission. Starring in the CBS series alongside the award-winning actress was an A-list cast, including Goran Visnjic, Pierce Gagnon, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Hiroyuki Sanada, Camryn Manheim, GraceGummer, and Michael O’Neill.Steven Spielberg served as executive producer on the series through his banner, Amblin Television.

Both seasons of Extant were well-received by critics upon their release, which is also reflected in the commendatory reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 1, broadcast from July 9 to September 17, 2014, has received a Certified Fresh 81% critics’ score from 42 reviews, most of which are positive. Similarly, the sophomore season airing from July 1 to September 9, 2015, has a 73% Tomatometer rating based on 11 reviews. These sum up to an average total of 77% with most of the commentary praising Berry’s compelling performance in the two installments. Sadly, that wasn’t enough to keep the mystery drama going as it was cancelled on October 9, 2015, just a month after the Season 2 finale.

All episodes of Extant arrive on Netflix on August 18. Stay tuned to Collider for future streaming updates.
