We pick the five best Patrick Swayze movies of all time. From early hits like Red Dawn to classics like Point Break, they’re all here.

Patrick Swayze was one of a kind. He’s the only actor I can think of who was as comfortable cutting a rug on the dance floor as demolishing a room full of bad guys with his fists of fury. When he passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2009, we lost an icon who was never really recognized as the legend he is in his time. In the years since many Patrick Swayze movies have become cult favourites, and with a Road House remake recently a hit, we decided now would be a good time to pick the five best Patrick Swayze movies.

Red Dawn (1984)

John Millius’s cold war “what if” thriller goes down in the history books as the first-ever PG-13 movie. It was also Patrick Swayze’s first major leading role, with him best known up to this point for a supporting role in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders. Here, he plays the young leader of a rag-tag group of local teens – including Charlie Sheen, The Outsiders co-star C. Thomas Howell, and future Dirty Dancing co-star Jennifer Grey – who become a deadly militia when the Soviets opt to kick off World War III in their small town. It sounds much sillier than it is, with this a pretty grim (but still butt-kicking) depiction of young people forced to become old before their time to defend their homes. The remake of this was God-awful.

Dirty Dancing (1987)

Of all the Patrick Swayze movies on this list, Dirty Dancing was the one that made him one of the biggest stars of the eighties. While he’s about fifteen years too old to be playing the young Johnny Castle, the bad boy dance instructor at the Catskills resort visited by our heroine, “Baby” (Jennifer Grey), the energy and charisma he brings to the role makes us forget all that. This movie not only made him a movie star but also a pop star, with his song off the soundtrack, “She’s Like The Wind,” rocketing up the charts.

Road House (1989)

While Swayze could have just stuck to romantic movies, he opted to branch out into action, and did so brilliantly with Road House. While it’s a cult sensation now, the truth of the matter was that this movie wasn’t a box office hit in 1989 and was widely mocked. Oh, how the times have changed. I stand by including this on my recent list of the 25 Greatest Action Movies Ever.

Ghost (1990)

While one of his biggest box office hits, of all of Patrick Swayze’s movies on this list, I daresay this is the most underrated. People have forgotten what a powerful romantic thriller this is, with some really nifty genre elements, worked into this story of a ghost (Swayze) trying to solve his own murder. Demi Moore is gorgeous as his true love, while Whoopi Goldberg steals the show as the con-artist psychic helping him. It’s crazy that this came from one of the directors of The Naked Gun (Jerry Zucker), with the climactic scenes of the bad guys being dragged to hell, kicking and screaming pretty gnarly.

Point Break (1991)

Without a doubt, Point Break is the best Patrick Swayze movie on this list. Like Road House, it’s one of the greatest action movies of all time, and Swayze is cast against type as the movie’s bad guy, a surfing zen master bank robber named Bodhi. One of the reasons this movie works as well as it does is that even though you know Bodhi is the guy Keanu Reeves’ FBI agent Johnny Utah is after, you don’t want to believe it’s true. He’s so likable that you are actually rooting against Utah, to a point, and to me, their chemistry is a huge part of the movie’s appeal.

Of course, those aren’t the only great Patrick Swayze movies, with Steel Dawn (1987), Next of Kin (1989), City of Joy (1992), To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1995), Black Dog (1998), Donnie Darko (2001), One Last Dance (2003) – which was directed by his wife Lisa Niemi – and many others all being well worth checking out. Do you agree with our picks? Let us know in the comments what you think are the best Patrick Swayze movies!

With 1923 now back for its second season, Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford are once again stepping into the boots of Cara and Jacob Dutton, picking up right where they left off—despite a two-year break between filming. The Yellowstone prequel, which has also been created by Taylor Sheridan, continues to take viewers through the violent and turbulent history of the Dutton family. But while fans are excited to see how this particular story ends, Mirren has admitted that, much like in their real lives, she and Ford are often totally clueless about what might be coming next. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Mirren revealed that even the actors don’t have the full picture of 1923’s story in advance.

“We came back with alacrity and excitement, not quite knowing what was going to happen, not knowing how it was going to finish up, but with great anticipation,” Mirren said, about returning to set after the long hiatus.

While some cast members—like Brandon Sklenar, who plays Spencer Dutton—have known the season’s ending from the start, Mirren and Ford have been discovering the story as they go.

“That’s the other amazing thing about the whole thing: Like life, you don’t know what’s coming. We get our scripts probably three or four weeks [ahead] … But we don’t have much of an idea of where it’s going. That gives it an excitement and a thrill.”

More to follow.

Fear the Walking Dead vet Jenna Elfman opened up about the possibility of returning for a Dharma & Greg revival, after more than two decades since the hit sitcom ended its five-season run. For her performance as the free-spirited Dharma Montgomery, she won a Golden Globe award in 1999 for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy.

Elfman is currently starring as a recurring character in ABC’s family sitcom Shifting Gears, which is led by Tim Allen and Kat Dennings. Her first episode airs today, February 26, at 8 p.m. on ABC. She will also next be seen in the upcoming third season of AMC’s psychological thriller series Dark Winds.

What is Jenna Elfman’s condition for a Dharma & Greg revival?

During a recent interview with ComingSoon, when asked if she would be willing to reprise her iconic role as Dharma in a potential revival or reunion of the classic sitcom, Elfman admitted that she’s not really against the idea of revivals. However, she stressed that she would only consider returning if the new show would stay true to the original’s identity.

“Yeah, I’m never against that. It just has to feel as fun and true to what the show was originally. I’ve never been against anything like that,” Elfman said. “But it does have to feel right because to me, it’s so iconic and so wonderful, and it’s in such a place in all of our hearts. It would have to feel along that same wavelength, you know?”

Besides Elfman, Dharma & Greg was also led by Thomas Gibson as Greg Montgomery, an uptight lawyer who grew up from a conservative and traditional Republican family. Created by Dottie Dartland and Chuck Lorre, the series ran on-air from 1997-2002. It centered around two polar opposite individuals, who married each other during their first date. The cast also included Susan Sullivan, Mitchell Ryan, Mimi Kennedy, Alan Rachins, Joe Murray, Yeardley Smith, Kathryn Joosten, and more.

Bautista went on to reprise the role six more times, with Drax’s story coming to a close in 2023 with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, Bautista hasn’t been shy voicing his dissatisfaction with how Drax was handled, and he recently shared what he wishes had been done differently with the character during his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While speaking with journalist Jake Hamilton about his new movie In the Lost Lands, which comes out next week on the 2025 release schedule, Bautista was asked which past movie of his he would find the most interesting to be told directly from the perspective of the character he played from his point of view. He selected Drax the Destroyer, saying:

Probably the best would be Drax. I think Drax, because if Drax could actually tell his whole story – this is a bittersweet conversation with me, because I always thought there was so much story to tell there. And, for reason, Marvel just didn’t see it, which drove me crazy.

Dave Bautista’s criticism of Drax’s narrative journey in the MCU stretches back to 2021, when he told a fan on social media that he was disappointed with how the character’s storyline with Thanos played out. Then in January 2023, Dave Bautista said it was a “relief” that his time as Drax was over, though he mainly attributed this to the grueling makeup process. By September 2024, Bautista said he didn’t miss playing Drax, although he did miss the “family environment” that he’d formed with director/writer James Gunn, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan and Sean Gunn.

It’s a shame that that playing Drax the Destroyer didn’t live up to Bautista’s expectations. Granted, there’s only so much time that can be spent in these movies on Drax alone since he’s part of an ensemble cast, but the actor is also welcome to his frustrations about Marvel Studios not wanting to explore the Guardian more in depth. I understand why he’d be down for the opportunity to tell Drax’s full story. I would have been interested to see that tackled as a Special Presentation to stream with a Disney+ subscription, just like The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

While things didn’t work out with Drax in his mind, Dave Bautista did say earlier this month that he’d be open to playing a different role in the MCU, despite having bid an emotional goodbye to the franchise in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The actor has also expressed interest in re-teaming with James Gunn in the DC Universe, as he’s now running DC Studios with producer Peter Safran. So if Bautista returns to the superhero genre, we’ll tell you about it.

Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys has been controversial from the start, but season 5 looks destined to repeat the most divisive part of season 4. The Boys has been one of Amazon’s best shows, by far. Led by Eric Kripke, The Boys’ launch presented Kripke fans with a most impressive diversion from his fantastic but commercial hit show, Supernatural. It had the supernatural horror and black humor fans had come to expect from the showrunner but pulled no punches in its social commentary, leading The Boys season 4 to split fans over its clear real-world parallels.

The Boys characters of season 1 were introduced throughout the season, preventing deeper dives into conspiratorial arcs that started manifesting in seasons 2 and 3. This spectacular first season was spent on exposition of the show’s uniquely satirical world and its farcical “supes,” corporate pop stars with little in common with the superheroes of Marvel tradition that they mocked. Or, more in common than anyone had ever realized, as the show was positioned to point out so aptly. But by season 4, the show was outraging fans and non-fans alike with its election plot, which season 5 should revive.

The U.S. has been through a shocking electoral back-and-forth the likes of which the millennials watching The Boys had scarcely seen, and The Boys wasted no time in parodying it. Whatever one’s political beliefs, The Boys was taking aim. But one politician, in particular, took the brunt of the show’s derision, which was only sometimes good-natured. The incredibly parodiable Donald Trump (parodiable being as much a blessing as a curse) got clearly allegorized by the exceptional Antony Starr in the role of Homelander, who ended season 4 as President of the United States.

To The Boys’ credit, there are few true heroes and villains in the show. OK, almost everyone is a villain. But they are often so sad and sympathetic that they genuinely invite viewer support, even if just out of the morbid fascination of discovering how bombastically they will wreak havoc. But they often rock the boat of the general consensus on who really threatens world safety. That’s the whole point of the show. And Homelander comes as close to a supervillain as possible, tragic as he is. Trump was just re-elected, and Homelander should reflect this in season 5 in polarizing fasion.

The Boys was a smash hit on launch and well into its third season, but Sage and Homelander’s plan invited controversy that wasn’t entirely deserved. Homelander has always been the show’s main villain. However, his increasing power in season 4, largely down to Sage, led many to start seriously bristling. The gruesome twosome looked increasingly like they were supposed to caricature American politicians in season 4, until, finally, they aspired to Make America Super Again, eradicating any uncertainty about which political party they were approximating. But The Boys was always political, and Homelander always parodied Trump.

Homelander is a brutal monster in The Boys TV show, but there are a few Supes in the comics who are even more evil than Homelander.

The show will have to end explosively, even if it doesn’t follow the comics. The Boys was always meant to end in season 5 to avoid the protracted uncertainty of ongoing renewal and relevance. Kripke is no stranger to the eternal TV show, with Supernatural the longest-running American live-action fantasy TV series. The Boys will kick Kripke’s habit of piling on season after season, even if fans beg for more, which will require season 5 to go all out. This is sure to make it even more divisive than season 4.

And, the show shines when it doesn’t follow the comics, creating original material necessary for TV pacing. This will make it easier for the show to imitate U.S. events. However, following the comics will keep The Boys political, even regardless of real-life events. Without creating spoilers, there are possibly scenes ahead that end rather tumultuously in the White House. From the show’s source material to its dark first three seasons, it was poised to divide its audience. But that audience should have been divided from season 1, and The Boys will revel in keeping it so to its death.

In Severance Season 1, one of the most fascinating relationships happens between the innies of Irving (John Turturro) and Burt (Christopher Walken). Watching their sincere and tender bond soften Irving B.’s pro-Lumon stance leads to one of the best moments of the season when he says he wants to “burn this place to the ground.” Season 2 has continued this exploration and widened it to the characters’ outies meeting, and seeing Walken take a bigger role in the show has been a joy to watch, with this latest episode, “Atilla” revealing more than ever about the character.

The dinner between Burt, Irving, and Burt’s husband, Fields (John Noble), is one of those scenes in Severance that once again displays the show’s ability to blend both unnerving and charming tones in a way that keeps us guessing. Not only does it appear that Burt may have betrayed Irving in this scene, but what we learn about his relationship with Fields and his outie may hint at a darker character than we previously assumed, as well as a greater commitment to Lumon than we thought. Only time will tell, but Burt’s character is going to be one to keep your eye on moving forward.

The entire dinner holds an undercurrent of tension as Fields struggles to deal with the fact his husband may have another, stronger, soulmate in Irving. This tension hits its climax when Fields remarks that Burt worked for Lumon 20 years ago, and the reveal that severance was only implemented 12 years ago implies Burt was a non-severed employee who was promoted or moved to the severed floor within the company. The reason we assume he was still severed at this time is Fields’ jab that Burt had a different “Lumon partner” back then, which links to their previous conversation about Burt having relationships with other innies. To arguably have been one of the first severed people in the world hints at a deeper connection to Lumon that we also seem to get more evidence of as the company begins a wider strategy against Irving.

During dinner, the newly introduced yet thoroughly intimidating Drummond (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) sneaks into Irving’s home and unlocks his suitcase containing his investigation. So much of this scene is frightening due to the subtle moments we see. Drummond doesn’t technically break in, but uses a key he has on a large ring full of other keys, implying he has access to everyone’s house, when the only other thing we have seen similar to this was Harmony Cobel (Patricia Arquette) having a singular key to Mark Scout’s (Adam Scott) house. Something else that makes the scene unnerving is that we don’t hear Irving’s dog react at all, leading us to wonder what Drummond would have done to keep the dog quiet and how very few things can stand as obstacles to him.

What seems to stand out as evidence that Burt is involved in this deception is when Irving leaves after dinner. Irving walks down the drive, leftovers in hand, with a shy yet giddy expression. Burt, on the other hand, watches him go with an ominous look as his smile fades away. The scowl on Burt’s face could be proof of feeling conflicted about his feelings for Irving, Lumon, and Fields, but his active push to connect with Irving, such as when he inquires if Fields should come to his and Irving’s next meeting, makes this conflict feel confusing. Furthermore, it feels unlikely Drummond would take such a risk if he didn’t know where Irving was that night and couldn’t guarantee how long he would be gone for, which would make Burt’s expression either the reveal of his facade or still feeling guilt over tricking someone he cared about. Either way, as with much of Severance, it doesn’t feel like the most simple explanation will be the truth, but something far messier instead.

Burt’s Religious Views Could Hint to Him Having a Far Darker Past in ‘Severance’

What we learn about Burt’s outie doesn’t make him a completely evil character, but it does hint at something dodgier than his innie’s nature would suggest. During dinner, Fields and Burt explain their Lutheran religion to Irving, and Burt admits to being a “scoundrel” in his past and that he believes he will go to hell, which leads to the fascinating way he and Fields have decided to view their relationship. The way they imply that Burt’s outie will go to hell, perhaps with Irving’s outie, while his innie goes to heaven with Fields, is thoroughly complex. The way Burt is framed with the fire crackling behind him helps to highlight this nihilistic motif and makes us fear the idea of what Burt has done in his past to accept this kind of eternal damnation.

Yet, again, Burt’s framework of thinking doesn’t make us completely sour on the character. On the one hand, it is a rather fatalistic point of view from Burt that is near psychopathic, as he wants to use his innie to give his husband something without any thought of how the innie may feel. But, the nature of wanting his husband to have someone in heaven is one we can sympathize with and gives us a character willing to do dubious things for good reasons.

When Burt will see Irving again is unknown, though presumably, Irving will have to return the Tupperware he took home the leftover ham in. If Irving initiates the next contact, it will be fascinating to see how Burt reacts, as it will be a good indication of whether Burt’s intentions are altruistic or not. Either way, it is likely that, the more we see Burt, the more complex of a character he will become, and learning more about him won’t stop us from asking more questions. Just the little bits of history that were revealed in this episode changed our perception of his character, implying he is hiding what his real role at Lumon was, or is. Even if he is betraying Irving, there is no guarantee he will be doing it from a completely evil perspective, as his expression at Irving appears to show us someone in conflict with himself, rather than wholly proud of his actions.

Frances Neagley may be one of the best characters in Reacher, but I was initially very worried when it was announced that a spinoff following her was in development. Even though Neagley has only appeared in five out of the 29 Jack Reacher novels, actress Maria Sten has portrayed her in every season of Reacher. Neagley does not appear in The Killing Floor, the novel that the first season of Reacher was based on, but she was written into the season and quickly became a fan-favorite character.

Neagley had a much larger role in Reacher season 2, which made sense since she was a prominent character in Bad Luck and Trouble, the book the season was based on. The response to her character in the first two seasons has proven that it doesn’t actually matter whether Neagley appears in the source material. Reacher season 3 has also found a way to include Neagley, despite her not appearing in the source material. However, she admittedly does have a smaller role in Reacher season 3, which is why it is great that Neagley is getting her own spinoff.

Lee Child Refused To Write A Neagley Spinoff For Years

Since its premiere in 2022, Reacher has become one of Prime Video’s most popular series, which is why it wasn’t necessarily a surprise when a Neagley spinoff was announced in September 2024. However, I was immediately worried about it ruining the character, especially since Lee Child, author of the Jack Reacher novels, has refused to write a spinoff Neagley story for years. Thankfully, my worries have gone away after learning that Lee Child is excited and even “jealous” about the Neagley spinoff. Talking about why he never wrote a Neagley spinoff, Child said:

I was nervous about doing it, because the thing about her, it seemed to me, was that she’s mysterious. She’s unexplained. I didn’t want to go too deeply into what made her who she is. I felt that would burst the bubble somehow, so I shied away from it.

Despite believing for years that centering a separate story around Neagley would ruin the character’s mysterious aura, Child has now admitted that he was wrong. He even praised Reacher showrunner Nick Santora, who is also developing the Neagley spinoff, for pursuing a project that he was afraid of for years. Therefore, it seems like Child is very confident that Santora has come up with an amazing idea for the Neagley spinoff show, which is a huge relief.

Nick Santora Must Have A Great Idea For The Neagley Spinoff

Even though Santora has done an exceptional job adapting several Jack Reacher novels, no one knows Reacher’s characters better than Child. After all, Chid has been writing Jack Reacher novels since The Killing Floor was released in 1997. Child has spent decades getting to know these characters on a deeper level, which is why I no longer have any reason to doubt that the Neagley spinoff will be another exceptional entry in Prime Video’s franchise.

Even though Child has full confidence in the project, the Neagley spinoff is still a major risk. Reacher has been an extremely successful show, but Neagley’s series will prove whether the franchise can find similar success without its main character. If Neagley is a success, then Reacher could become an even bigger franchise for Prime Video and even more spinoff shows could be made. Future spinoff shows could potentially follow characters like Oscar Finlay and Karla Dixon.

Not many plot details are currently known about the Neagley spinoff. However, when the show was announced, it was revealed that Neagley will be shocked by the death of a close friend. In the show, Neagley will suspect that something is not right about her friend’s premature death, so she’ll start to investigate it and eventually discover a web of lies. The show will have to explore Neagley’s personal life, but it is currently unknown if it will explain her origin.

Reacher season 3 features a hilarious joke that not only serves as a perfect callback to a season 2 scene but also captures the character’s lifestyle.

Not much is known about Neagley, other than the fact that she is a skilled private investigator and was a member of the 110th Special Investigations Unit. The show doesn’t necessarily have to reveal everything about Neagley’s personal life, but much like Reacher season 1, it will have to show glimpses of how she became who she is today. Reacher is also a very mysterious character, and the Prime Video series continuously explores his backstory just enough. Therefore, just like in Reacher, it shouldn’t be hard for the Neagley spinoff to show glimpses of her past without ruining the character.

Kiefer Sutherland and Rebel Wilson are set to star in a new Christmas comedy film project, Tinsel Town, for from Sky and Future Artists Entertainment.

In Tinsel Town, “Sutherland plays Bradley Mack, a Hollywood action star with a bloated ego who is blindsided when his iconic action franchise is abruptly canceled.

“With his career in freefall and worried his Hollywood days are behind him, he heads to England, hoping to rebuild his image as a serious actor on the West End. But his long-suffering agent has other plans, sending Bradley instead to a small, snow-dusted village to star in the town’s eccentric production of ‘Cinderella.’

“As he fumbles through rehearsals with a colourful cast of oddball locals, Bradley begins to discover a spark of new beginnings in the form of no-nonsense choreographer Jill (Wilson).”

The movie will be directed by Chris Foggin (Bank of Dave) from a script written by Frazer Flintham, Adam Brown and Piers Ashworth.

Sutherland said in a statement: “I’m thrilled to be working back in the UK and with director Chris Foggin. The cast is fantastic, and I can’t wait to tell this story.”

Wilson added: “I love British Christmas movies — because in Australia we’re just on the beach having a BBQ – and so now I feel like I get to have a classic British Christmas – freezing my t***s off but laughing and sledding all the way!”

Julia Stuart, Director of Original Film at Sky said: “We are so proud of this uplifting and charming comedy, and we can’t wait for it to come to Sky Cinema this Christmas. It’s feel-good, festive and funny, and we hope will have something for everyone to enjoy.”

Matt Williams of Future Artists Entertainment said: “Continuing our long-standing successful Sky relationship in assembling the best of British talent in front and behind the camera, I am unbelievably excited to deliver this hilarious and heartwarming Christmas Comedy to the screen.

“Tinsel Town is sure to join the pantheon of classic Christmas films, and I am thrilled we have gathered such an incredible ensemble of British talent led by the incredible Kiefer Sutherland and Rebel Wilson.”

Tinsel Town will be coming to Sky Cinema at Christmas 2025.

Meanwhile, after Munroe is bitten by a shark, The Odyssey takes a dangerous detour to rescue a sinking boat, where a mysterious new passenger catches Max’s eye,” reads the official logline, teasing the fallout of Max’s decision and some new conflicts. “The second half of the season is definitely eventful and thrilling, and it’s pretty exciting stuff,” series star Don Johnson teased to TV Insider. “Fun to be a part of,” he added. It might not be as fun for Max, Avery, and Tristan (Sean Teale), who are now trying to move forward after the failed throuple. Jackson previewed what’s ahead when the show returns in a week, saying:

“For our three characters, the back half of the season really is that story. It is the most important thing happening between the three of them, and what it does beyond the just, ‘Who’s the daddy?’ [issue] is it forces all three of them to work through their relationship dynamics and come to some sort of stated understanding between each other of who wants what from whom. And that’s where we get to by the end of the season.”

Dr. Lane and Dr. Bankman are close to being peers in their careers, and the former’s appearance disrupts Max’s rhythm, where he acts like he’s the smartest person on the ship. “We have these very, very serious, dire cases that get brought aboard, and what she drops into the professional side of the show, the medical side of the show, is another doctor who is a subject matter expert, who is able to put Max in his place, which he may need from time to time,” said Jackson about the professional dynamics. He added:

“And then on the personal side, I think the presence of this co-equal, beautiful woman in Max’s ear forces Avery to examine some of her feelings and desires around Max and brings all of that to a head. So she’s a great addition. And of course, the character knows none of this. So she’s this bomb that goes off in the center of our story, and she doesn’t know what it is exactly that she’s done, but she feels all of these dynamics around her.”
