Another enticing British drama is ready to hit the BBC, with actor, novelist, and screenwriter Tony Schumacher‘s The Cage finally releasing new details. As cited on Radio Times, the series, starring Gavin & Stacey‘s Sheridan Smith and Being Human‘s Michael Socha, is set in a Liverpool casino and will feature a twisting tale of criminal thrills and spills. Alongside the first images of the series available below, more details on the show’s ensemble have now been announced, with a stacked and experienced cast assembled to take on Schumacher’s follow-up to The Responder.
Alongside Smith and Socha in The Cage are the likes of House of the Dragon‘s Barry Sloane as Gary, Geraldine James (Dope Girls) as Nancy, Anton Bibby as Thomas, Freya Jones as Emily, Sophie Mensah (Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale) as Fen, Abby Mavers (Waterloo Road) as Kelly, Shaun Mason (Extraordinary) as Alan, Louis Emerick (The Power of Parker)as Paul, Ian Puleston Davies (Tin Star) as Vincent, Julia Papp (Baptiste) as Irina, Katy Carmichael (Malpractice) as DCI Hannigan, Dave Hart (The Responder) as Danny, Mona Goodwin (Extraordinary) as Trace, and even more. Speaking about the series, which is produced by the team behind Poor Things at Elemental Pictures, Schumacher said:
“Coming back to the BBC with my second major show and being able to work with such talents as Sheridan, Michael [Socha] and the teams at Element Pictures and the BBC is such an honour. On top of that, having a director of Al’s calibre really is the cherry on the big Liverpool drama cake we’re baking together. I’m hoping people will find it funny, dark, but most of all full of love, life and entertainment and I can’t wait for the world to see it.”
What is ‘The Cage’ About?
Thankfully, not only have first-look images and new casting information been released, but a full synopsis for the series is now available via the Beeb. “When Leanne (Smith) and Matty (Socha) discover they are both robbing from the safe at the casino they work in, their lives are set on a collision course; with each other, the local gangster they’re stealing from, and the police,” the synopsis reads, with a high-octane thrill ride promised. The series is split into five parts, with each directed by Humans‘ Al Mackay.
New British crime series The Cage will soon arrive on the BBC, with no release date yet set. Check out star Michael Socha’s Being Human on Prime now.
