Muster your warriors. Man your defenses. Prepare your village. Clash of Clans is coming to Netflix as an animated series. Based on Supercell’s Clash of Clans, the upcoming series will be the streamer’s latest attempt at video game adaptations after successful tries, which include Arcane, The Witcher and Devil May Cry. Titled Clash, the animated series will build on the world introduced in Supercell franchises Clash of Clans and Clash Royale, two of the biggest games of all time. Launching on Android and iOS in 2012, they have since totaled four billion downloads and 180 billion gameplay hours by mobile game fans across the world.
In the mobile game, each player spawns into territories where, using several in-game mechanics, including mining resources and war, each player can build up their settlements, join up with other players to form powerful clans and dominate the world around them. Netflix’s adaptation of the mobile will follow a similar premise. “The new series will build upon the mayhem of the games,” according to the Netflix announcement. “It follows a determined, but in over his head, Barbarian who must rally a band of misfits to defend their village and navigate the comically absurd politics of war.”
Fletcher Moules will serve as showrunner for the animated series. Moules directed the original Clash of Clans animated videos for Supercell. Ron Weiner comes onboard to serve as executive producer with Vancouver-based ICON Creative Studio leading the animation.“ Clash has been a global gaming phenomenon for over a decade — filled with humor, action, and unforgettable characters perfect for an animated series adaptation,” says John Derderian, Vice President of Animation Series at Netflix. “Working with the incredible team at Supercell, Fletcher Moules, and Ron Weiner, we’re bringing all the fun, chaos, and spirit of the world of Clash to life in a whole new way. We can’t wait for fans — old and new — to experience the mayhem.”
‘Clash’ is in Safe Hands at Netflix
Netflix has established itself as a welcome home for animated series, with several of them being beloved titles, including Blue Eye Samurai, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, and Sonic Prime. Clash does not have a release date yet, but it’s clear that the project is in safe hands with Netflix. Head of film and TV at Supercell, Curtis Lelash, echoed those sentiments, saying:
“We’re thrilled to be working with Netflix and this creative team to bring the world of CLASH to life. Think epic battles, immaculate Barbarian mustaches, and the kind of humor our players know and love. They’ve been asking for a Clash series forever, and we’re beyond excited to finally say: It’s happening!”
Clash does not have a release date yet. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
