Your actions in Chapter 8 of Final Fantasy 7 Remake affect the dress that Aerith will wear in Chapter 9. During these chapters, Tifa, Aerith, and Cloud will all prepare to infiltrate Don Corneo’s mansion and gather intel on Shinra. In order to do so, all three will don elaborate disguises, and your choices can influence exactly how they look.
While Tifa’s dress is determined by a single dialogue option way back in Chapter 3 and Cloud’s by your performance in certain Chapter 9 sidequests, Aerith’s look is a little more complicated. Here’s how to unlock all three potential outfits in FF7 Remake, and what they affect in the long run.
How To Unlock All Of Aerith’s Dresses
Sidequests In Chapter 8
Ultimately, the dress Aerith wears to Corneo’s will depend directly on how many sidequests you completed during Chapter 8. All three dresses are pictured above, and the breakdown of what you need to do to unlock each of them is below.
| Dress | |
|---|---|
| Dull Pink | Don’t complete any sidequests during Chapter 8. |
| Bright Pink | Complete three or more sidequests during Chapter 8. |
| Red | Complete all six sidequests in Chapter 8. |
The following Odd Jobs (sidequests) are available in Chapter 8:
- “The Mysterious Moogle Merchant”
- “Kids On Patrol”
- “Weapons on a Rampage”
- “A Verified Hero”
- “The Angel of the Slums”
- “Paying Respects”
It doesn’t really matter which quests you complete, as long as you complete the correct number for the dress you prefer. But the differences go deeper than aesthetics: your choice of dress will have an impact on the story.
Which Dress Should You Choose For Aerith?
Story & Achievement Changes
In short, the dress you choose for Aerith will change some dialogue in an ensuing cutscene. It won’t affect the outcome of the meeting with Corneo or the story at large, nor will it alter anything else later in the story or in the sequels, including which character you get to go on a Gold Saucer date with in Rebirth.
If you don’t complete any of the Chapter 8 sidequests and Aerith ends up with the dull pink dress, she’ll profess a lack of confidence in her makeover before the audition, although she’ll say she did her best to make it look good. If you do three or more, but fewer than six, she’ll show up in the brighter pink dress, admitting that it’s a little plainer than what Corneo is used to, but might help her stand out nonetheless.
If you finish all the Chapter 8 sidequests and Aerith wears the red dress, the scene will be much more dramatic, with cameras flashing, confetti falling, and literal fireworks going off as she appears on the bridge to Corneo’s for the first time. Cloud will be speechless upon seeing her, but Aerith will complain that the dress is too gaudy and difficult to walk around in.
Ultimately, the red dress gets you the best and most dramatic result. This version of the scene is most impactful to Aerith’s relationship with Cloud going forward, not to mention a lot more interesting. So, if you can be bothered, it’s best to complete all the Chapter 8 sidequests and unlock the red dress for Aerith.
There’s some merit in choosing the other dresses, too: if you unlock all nine dresses available for Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith, you’ll gain the “Dressed to the NInes” trophy/achievement on PlayStation or Xbox. You can do this easily by replaying Chapters 3, 8, and 9 via the chapter select feature, which is unlocked after you beat the game for the first time.
Either way, though, the dress that Aerith ends up with only has a minor impact on a single scene in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. While the red dress leads to the most dramatic result, the choice is ultimately up to you.
