Sam Raimi Picks Between Doctor Strange & Spider-Man for Rescue From an Island

Sam Raimi, who has directed both the Spider-Man franchise and a film from the Doctor Strange series, replied to a question about which superhero he would pick if he were stranded on a deserted island. The clip of this answer was posted by Disney D23’s official Instagram account.

Sam Raimi names who will save him from an island between Spider-Man and Doctor Strange

Sam Raimi is one of the rare directors to direct superhero films from two different franchises. He helmed the original Spider-Man trilogy featuring Toby Maguire, which became one of Marvel’s earliest big successes. He returned to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, one of the most offbeat entries in the MCU.

In a recent clip posted by Disney D23‘s official Instagram page, Raimi was asked which superhero he would pick to save him from an isolated island.

Raimi said, “Doctor Strange may have the kit to get me out of the jam much quicker.” He referred to Strange’s ability to create portals between locations. “Even though I love Spidey, I think he would serve me better in a city,” Raimi added. “But yeah, Doctor Strange,” he concluded.

Despite the attention surrounding Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, this particular scenario led him to choose Doctor Strange, portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch.

The two superheroes also appear together in Spider-Man: No Way Home, where a different generation of Spider-Man seeks help from Doctor Strange, leading to a multiverse-altering chain of events.

Sam Raimi also has an upcoming film set for release. The Evil Dead director recently helmed Send Help, which is scheduled to premiere on January 30, 2026, in the United States. The film blends horror and dark humor and stars Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien in the lead roles.
