Comedy fans have something to look forward to this spring. Netflix is set to release a new documentary on Martin Short. Marty, Life is Short dives into the legendary comedian’s long and hilarious career. It comprises rare behind-the-scenes footage and interviews from fellow stars. Directed by Lawrence Kasdan, the film celebrates Short’s wit, heart, and decades of making audiences laugh.

Netflix will premiere Marty, Life is Short on May 12. From his SCTV beginnings to iconic roles in Father of the Bride and Three Amigos, Short has been cracking fans up for over 50 years. The documentary also shines a light on his current hit, Only Murders in the Building. He stars alongside Steve Martin and Selena Gomez in the show.
Directed by Lawrence Kasdan, famed for The Big Chill and co-writing Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Empire Strikes Back, the film comprises rare archival footage with fresh interviews from Short’s closest collaborators. Kasdan, who worked with Short on 1999’s Mumford, brings that long-time creative bond into this heartfelt and hilarious documentary.
Marty, Life is Short is brought to life by producers Christopher St. John, Justin Wilkes, Sara Bernstein, Meredith Kaulfers, Lawrence Kasdan, and Blair Foster. Furthermore, Imagine Entertainment legends Brian Grazer and Ron Howard serve as executive producers.
Short isn’t slowing down anytime soon. “I’m not a believer in retirement just based on a number,” he said in an interview (via The Hollywood Reporter). “It’s designed for people who don’t really like their job… But I like my job.” Fans can expect to see the same energy, humor, and inventiveness on full display in this Netflix release.
