Jason Statham’s next movie hits theaters in just a few weeks, but his most recent action epic is charging straight to the top of streaming charts. Last year, Statham teamed up with Michael Peña (Ant-Man) and David Harbour (Stranger Things) for A Working Man, the kidnapping thriller following Levon Cade, a man who leaves his old life behind to spend more time with his daughter, but he’s called back into the action when his boss’s daughter is kidnapped. A Working Man is streaming on Prime Video around the world, where it’s risen to the pinnacle of streaming charts as fans prepare for the arrival of Statham’s next film.
A Working Man picks up with Levon Cade (Statham) working for Joe Garcia (Peña) and living a quiet life in construction. When Joe’s daughter, Jenny (Ariana Rivas), is kidnapped, Joe asks Levon to help him get his daughter back, but he refuses. Like many of Statham’s characters, he just can’t settle for the quiet life, so he vows to bring Jenny back home to her family. On the way, he faces off against enemies such as Dimi (Maximillian Osinski) and Dutch (Chidi Ajufo), but in typical Statham fashion, he comes out on top in the end. The film has also been heavily compared to Keanu Reeves‘ first John Wick movie, and there are some pretty striking similarities. Fans of John Wick are likely to enjoy A Working Man.
A Working Man earned a Rotten 47% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes but a Certified Fresh 87% from audiences on the Popcornmeter. The film grossed $89.2 million at the box office against a $40 million budget, and it was written by Sylvester Stallone and directed by David Ayer. Statham and Ayer previously worked together on The Beekeeper, the 2024 action smash hit that grossed over $160 million at the global box office.
Will There Be Another ‘Working Man’ Movie?
Amazon has not announced if it’s working on another Working Man movie — it may be a one-and-done for Statham. However, he is returning for a sequel to The Beekeeper, which is confirmed to premiere before the end of the year. David Ayer is not returning to direct The Beekeeper due to a scheduling conflict, but he’s been replaced by the highly-capable Timo Tjahjanto. Tjahjanto previously directed Nobody 2, and he’s also been tapped to direct Simu Liu’s Sleeping Dogs movie. He’s quietly becoming one of the most formidable young action directors in the world.
Be sure to check out A Working Man on Prime Video and Amazon MGM+ and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
