‘Longlegs’ Star Maika Monroe Fights For Her Life in New Action Thriller Sneak Peek [Exclusive]

Maika Monroe is in for the fight of her life in a new Collider-exclusive sneak peek of In Cold Light. The Canadian thriller stars Monroe as a recent parolee trying to rebuild her life, only to end up running for it, instead. The film also stars Oscar-winners Troy Kotsur and Helen Hunt. In Cold Light will premiere exclusively in theaters on January 23, 2026.

In our exclusive sneak peek, Monroe’s character is trying to get some sleep in a darkened hotel room. Instead, however, she catches a glimpse of a lurking assailant’s reflection in a light bulb. A life-or-death tussle ensues, with her mysterious foe trying to strangle the life out of her. However, that same light bulb that revealed his presence turns out to be her salvation, as she smashes it into her attacker’s face. She gains the upper hand and pulls a gun, prompting her would-be killer, now half-blinded, to plead for his life. Mercifully, she simply knocks him out with a blow to the head. Who is this man, and why does he want her dead? You’ll have to hit theaters later this week to find out.

Who Are the Stars of ‘In Cold Light’?

Monroe has established herself as a modern-day “scream queen,” after breaking out in the indie horror hit It Follows; more recently, she starred in Longlegs and the Hulu remake of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. Coming up next, she’s starring in the psychological horror film Victorian Psycho and the Colleen Hoover adaptation Reminders of Him. Hunt has had a long and varied career; starting out as a child actor in the 1970s, she ruled over the ’90s, starring in the hit sitcom Mad About You and blockbusters like Twisterand As Good as It Gets, winning a Best Actress Oscar for the latter. Recently, she had a recurring role on the HBO comedy Hacks. Born deaf, Kotsur had a number of TV and film roles before starring as the patriarch of a deaf family in 2021’s CODA, winning a Best Actor Oscar for his performance. He recently starred in the Netflix miniseries Black Rabbit and the horror film Primate.

In Cold Light is the English-language feature directorial debut of Québécois director Maxime Giroux (The Great Darkened Days). It was penned by Patrick Whistler (Cardinal) and is distributed by Saban Films.
