The CBS action-drama Fire Country is about to get a big shakeup as it’s been confirmed that the series’ showrunner will exit after season 4, leaving future seasons up in the air.
Deadline reported that Fire Country‘s showrunner, Tia Napolitano, is stepping down after four seasons of the popular CBS drama. Napolitano will be leaving at the end of season 4 as she plans to focus on her own development.
Fire Country was created and executive-produced by its star, Max Thieriot (Bates Motel), and Napolitano joined the series as executive producer and showrunner right after the pilot, alongside writers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater. The series was a major success for CBS and became the most-watched new series when it aired back in 2022.
CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach and CBS Studios President David Stapf released a joint statement about Napolitano’s departure:
“Tia has been instrumental in helping both build and steer Fire Country, which not only became a top series, but is also the foundation of a growing universe. We’re grateful for all her contributions and tireless work, and look forward to collaborating with her on future projects.”
Fire Country follows Thieriot’s character, convict Bode Donovan, as he joins a prison-release firefighting program in California in an effort to reduce his sentence, but Bode must face his past while helping protect people and finding redemption. The series also stars Kevin Alejandro, Jordan Calloway, Jules Latimer, Diane Farr, and Billy Burke.
Napolitano began in the TV industry as a writer’s assistant for Grey’s Anatomy showrunners Phelan and Rater before being approached about Fire Country. She has also worked on Cruel Summer, Station 19, Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, and Council of Dads.
Fire Country hasn’t been greenlit yet for season 5, but it is more than likely set for a renewal as CBS is already on the hunt for a new showrunner.
