Chris Pratt’s Controversial Billion Sci-Fi Blockbuster Roars Back to Life on Free Streaming

The Jurassic franchise keeps proving its strong grip on pop culture as even its most disliked entry, Jurassic World: Dominion, pulls in huge streaming numbers the moment it hits a new platform. The film was recently added to Fandango at Home (previously Vudu), and it is now free to stream with ads. It landed alongside popular horror titles like M3GAN, Hereditary, and Talk to Me, yet Dominion has managed to outrank them all. According to FlixPatrol, Dominion is currently ranked #4 among the most popular movies on Fandango at Home, even outperforming newer releases like The Running Man and Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.

Dominion picks up four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar in Fallen Kingdom, when the island’s dinosaurs were set free. With no fences or barriers to contain them, the creatures now roam across the planet and coexist with humans. The film brings back Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, while also reuniting the original Jurassic Park trio. Sam Neill,Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum return to their iconic roles as the characters team up to uncover a global conspiracy involving Biosyn Genetics, a powerful corporation experimenting with genetically modified locusts that could destroy the world’s food supply. It is a strange pivot, but it tries to raise the stakes beyond simple dinosaur action.

That pivot is also why the film became so controversial. Fans and critics were largely disappointed because, instead of focusing on dinosaurs invading human spaces, Dominion leaned into cloning, crop science, and corporate cover-ups. Dinosaurs felt like an afterthought. Despite being the lowest-rated entry in the franchise, with a mere 29% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film was a huge box office success. It crossed the billion-dollar mark and now ranks as the fourth-highest-grossing film in the entire franchise. This just shows the power of the Jurassic brand; no matter the reviews, audiences keep coming back as long as there is even a hint of big dinosaur spectacle.

A ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Sequel Is in Development

After Dominion, the franchise took another swing with Jurassic World Rebirth, which acted as a soft reboot. The film swapped out the old cast for a new covert ops team led by Mahershala Ali, Scarlett Johansson, and Jonathan Bailey, and while the new cast was appreciated by most audiences, the film itself proved highly divisive. Some viewers felt the mutant dinosaurs seemed more like extraterrestrial monsters and strayed too far from the franchise’s roots, while others enjoyed the back-to-basics survival story and its classic Spielberg-style adventure vibe. The studio has not officially greenlit a sequel yet, but considering how successful the sequel was, it would hardly be surprising if another installment wasn’t in the cards.

Jurassic World Dominion is available to stream on Fandango at Home. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
