Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Intense New Netflix Thriller With Is an Instant Classic on Rotten Tomatoes

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s new crime thriller is now streaming on Netflix, and critics can’t stop raving about The Rip. At the time of writing, the film has earned a strong 89% from critics on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. This comes from 35 reviews, too, so it’s a large enough sample size that it isn’t going to change much as more scores come in. The film does not have a score yet on the audience-driven Popcornmeter, but it surely will by the end of the weekend. Fans generally love Affleck and Damon’s work, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the film is a massive audience hit.

The Rip was previously dated for release at the end of last year, but the film was delayed to early 2026. Joe Carnahan wrote and directed The Rip with help from Michael McGrale on the script. Carnahan is famous for his directing work with Liam Neeson on The Grey, the 2011 wintry action thriller streaming on Prime Video. He also recently worked on Shadow Force, the action film starring Kerry Washington and Omar Sy. Affleck and Damon are also producing partners on their new Netflix crime thriller, as per usual.

The Rip is billed as a darker, grittier Miami Vice replacement. The film is set in Miami, and it follows a group of police officers who discover a drug stash worth millions, but problems come up amongst the group when they can’t decide what to do with it. Recent Golden Globes winner Teyana Taylor also stars in The Rip, along with Steven Yeun (Invincible), Sasha Calle (The Flash), Kyle Chandler (Lanterns), and Scott Adkins (Doctor Strange).

When Does Ben Affleck’s Next Movie Come Out?

Ben Affleck does not have another movie with a release date after The Rip, he is attached to star in several projects that are in development. Next up on the slate will most likely be Animals, the kidnapping thriller that wrapped production last year and is currently in post. Affleck returns to the director’s chair for the film that he’s also starring in alongside Kerry Washington and Steven Yeun. Affleck will also reprise his role as Christian in a third Accountant movie that Gavin O’Connor has confirmed is in the works, but the film is still in development and has not yet set a production start date.
