Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s Gritty ‘Miami Vice’ Replacement Debuts Exhilarating First Trailer

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have a partnership that extends back more than 20 years, and they’ll continue it into next year with an exciting new project. Netflix has released the first official trailer for The Rip, the duo’s new Miami-set crime thriller that follows a group of cops who discover a stash of drugs worth millions, only they can’t agree on what to do with it. The film will be released only on Netflix on January 16 — it will not receive any sort of theatrical release, despite the streamer testing the waters with this model on other films like Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery and A House of Dynamite.

Damon and Affleck’s highly anticipated crime thriller features a host of other stars that movie fans will recognize. Near the top of the call sheet is Teyana Taylor, who recently featured opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in One Battle After Another. Steven Yeun, famed for his role in The Walking Dead and also for voicing Mark in Invincible, will also star in The Rip. Former Supergirl actor Sasha Calle has even been tapped to star in the new Netflix movie, as well as Lanterns’ own Kyle Chandler. Doctor Strange star Scott Adkins will also have a part in the film.

At the helm to direct The Rip is Joe Carnahan, who also wrote the script for the film with Michael McGrale. Four years ago, Carnahan teamed up with Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo for Cop Shop. Earlier this year, he returned to the world of directing with Shadow Force, the Prime Video original action movie starring Omar Sy and Kerry Washington.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Have Big Projects Coming in 2026

Matt Damon will lead one of the biggest movies of 2026 in The Odyssey, the next film from Christopher Nolan. Damon featured in a supporting role in Nolan’s last film, Oppenheimer, but he will step into the spotlight by playing Odysseus when the film hits theaters on July 17, 2026. Affleck will be seen in a new kidnapping crime thriller, Animals, which he will also direct. The Rip star Steven Yeun will also have a role in the film, along with Kerry Washington and Gillian Anderson. It does not currently have a release date, but it’s already wrapped production and likely angling for late 2026.
