11 Years Later, Henry Cavill’s Forgotten James Bond Clone Makes Another Round on Streaming

Henry Cavill is gearing up to begin filming his Highlander reboot movie with Russell Crowe, but while fans await what may be his next classic, they’re revisiting one of his forgotten films on streaming. 11 years ago, Henry Cavill starred opposite Armie Hammer in The Man From U.N.C.L.E., the spoofy spy thriller set in the 1960s following a joint operation between CIA and KGB agents. In America, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is no longer streaming anywhere after recently leaving Netflix, but globally, the film has surged into the VOD top 10 in several countries around the world.

Although The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is not streaming anywhere in America right now, it is available to rent or purchase on VOD platforms like Prime Video. It also likely won’t be long before it returns to one of the big streaming services. The film was met with a lukewarm reception upon its release 11 years ago, which led to it earning scores of 68% from critics and 75% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. It also struggled at the box office, mostly due to its $75 million budget. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. put up $110 million in earnings, but this was still roughly $40 million short of its break-even point.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is a remake of the spy series that ran from 1964 to 1968, and the film was written and directed by Guy Ritchie, with Lionel Wigram, Jeff Kleeman, and David C. Wilson also working on the script and story. Richie and Cavill reunited a few years ago for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, the WWII action movie that also stars Alan Ritchson (Reacher).

Has Amazon Picked Out the Next James Bond?

Amazon has full creative control of the next James Bond movie, but the studio has not yet announced who will play the next 007. Fans have thrown out Cavill’s name as a favorite for years, along with other stars like Idris Elba, but it’s been reported that Amazon is looking for a younger actor to carry the franchise for years to come. Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan were the last two actors to play the character in live-action. A new James Bond game, First Light, will also be released in May after previously being delayed from its March launch date, and will star Dexter: Original Sin‘s Patrick Gibson as a younger Bond in the earliest days of his career..

Check out The Man from U.N.C.L.E. on VOD platforms like Prime Video and Fandango at Home and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
