Nicolas Cage’s 72% Hilarious Dracula Movie Rises on Streaming

In his long-spanning career, Nicolas Cage has given us some amazing movies across various genres, including Western, drama, comedy, and superhero. The actor keeps his audience engaged by consistently delivering a range of diverse characters, be it a serial killer in Longlegs or a fictionalized version of himself in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. As the holiday season approaches, fans are revisiting his movies at their leisure and one of his horror comedies has become a streaming favorite.

Renfield has risen to fourth spot on Peacock’s top 10 domestic charts, as per FlixPatrol. The feature stands tall among films like HIM, The Croods, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Die Hard, and more. Directed by Chris McKay, the movie follows Renfield (Nicholas Hoult), the tortured aide to his narcissistic boss, Dracula (Cage). As a familiar, Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his bidding. Things take a turn after centuries of servitude, when he’s ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of the Prince of Darkness and joins a support group.

The feature has hilarious performances from Cage, filling in new colors in the age-old portrayal of Dracula, who’s played as a toxic boss. Hoult brings subtle nuances to his performance as Dracula’s victim, Renfield, who is practically a tortured employee. The twists and turns of the movie will keep you glued to your seats while having a good laugh. Though it was a box office bomb, it always seemed like a streaming-friendly film and has made its way to the fans’ hearts.

Despite making only $26.9 million at the box office, the modern monster tale has a 58% Rotten Tomatoes rating from the critics and a slightly higher 78% from fans. Along with Cage as Dracula, the movie casts Hoult as Robert Montague Renfield, Awkwafinaas Officer Rebecca, Ben Schwartzas Tedward, Shohreh Aghdashloo as Bellafrancesca Lobo, Brandon Scott Jones as Mark, and Adrian Martinez as Chris.

Where Will We See Nicolas Cage Next?

Cage will next appear in his standalone superhero series, Spider-Noir. The show, set in an alternate universe of 1930s New York City, follows an aging private investigator and superhero, who grapples with his mysterious past. Co-showrun by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, the series also casts Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Li Jun Li, and more. The highly anticipated eight-part series will premiere in 2026.
