Stranger Things Season 5 Vol. 2 Ending Explained: What’s Vecna’s Plan?

The ending of Stranger Things Season 5 Vol 2 reveals what Vecna’s ultimate plan is and what he intends to do with the kids. The latest installation ties all the storylines together, while fully exposing the scope of the threat that the Hawkins group is going up against in their final battle in the Upside Down.

Here’s a breakdown of what happens in Vol 2.

Stranger Things Season 5 Vol. 2 ending reveals Vecna’s plan

Ever since Stranger Things premiered, the Upside Down is the only other dimension that viewers have known. But the latest installment revealed that it is just an interdimensional bridge. It connects the human world with another reality, which Dustin names “Abyss.” It is the place where Eleven banished Henry Creel to. Moreover, it is the true home of all the creatures that the group encountered over the years.

In a shocking twist, Stranger Things Season 5 Vol 2 ending reveals that Veca is planning to collide these two realities.

How can he achieve it? Vecna intends to amplify his powers by using the 12 children that he kidnapped. As he explained to Will in Episode 4, children’s minds are fragile and are easy to bend to his command. So, using Holly, Derek, and others, he can generate more power, allowing him to merge his reality into Hawkins.

At the beginning of Stranger Things Episode 5, “Shock Jock,” Mr. Whatsit, aka Vecna, lays out his plans to the kids. He describes his world as the “light,” a world “free of monsters and darkness.” By merging his world with Hawkins, he claims to save everyone. Vecna tells the kids that they were chosen because they are “special” and that their “dormant powers ” will help him draw the two worlds together.

In Episode 7, “The Bridge,” the group makes a plan to reach Vecna and kill him, blow up the exotic matter to collapse the bridge, and escape. However, it is to be seen how well their plan is carried out. At the end of the episode, the majority of the group breaks into the military base and makes their way into the Upside Down.

The two-hour finale, titled “The Rightside Up,” will air on Netflix on New Year’s Eve.
