Apple TV+’s Pluribus may have just wrapped its first season, but the pressure for more is already building from its audience, including horror icon Stephen King.
Pluribus season 1 ended with major cliffhangers, including the Others discovering a loophole that could force Carol (Rhea Seehorn) to join them and Carol joining forces with Manousos, which could have dangerous consequences. The finale of the hit science fiction series left fans on the edge of their seats and wanting more.
Unfortunately for the viewers of Pluribus, creator Vince Gilligan recently revealed that he wasn’t in a rush to film season 2. He said that while he and the writers have a pretty solid idea of where the show is going, the upcoming installment won’t be arriving on fans’ screens anytime soon. He acknowledged that this news would upset fans. However, he also explained that he is getting older, and he doesn’t work as quickly as he used to.
Pluribus’ writer and executive producer Gordon Smith doubled down on what the Breaking Bad creator said. He shared that the show will return as soon as possible, but as Gilligan emphasized, the creative process takes a lot of time. He said he understood that the long gaps between seasons may frustrate audiences, but explained that the pace reflects their joint desire to get it right instead of rushing it and premiering something sloppy.
Although the reasoning behind the potentially long hiatus for the show is completely understandable, many of the show’s viewers are still annoyed with the recent update. And King is among the many people who had hoped that they wouldn’t have to wait too long for the story to continue, especially after all the cliffhangers.
The legendary horror writer wrote in a post on his official X account that although he can see where Gilligan is coming from, he was still disappointed. King pointed out that he himself isn’t getting any younger and would like to see Pluribus season 2 sooner rather than later.
There is currently no confirmed release date for Pluribus season 2 at the time of this article’s publication. However, audiences have speculated that it may arrive in 2027 or 2028.
