The Rookieseason 8’s full trailer has finally been released, and while the series is headed abroad for a major storyline involving an international case, the reconciliation between Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) and Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) back at home appears to be on a bumpier trajectory than expected. As The Rookie season 8 gets closer to its January premiere, more information about the season is coming to light.
Throughout The Rookie’s run, the series has slowly built the relationship between Tim, a training officer, and Lucy, his former rookie. While viewers were excited to see the chemistry between the pair in the show’s early seasons, Tim and Lucy’s romance hasn’t been as easy as anticipated. Instead, the couple shared a short-lived relationship that ended during season 6, and floundered during season 7.
While there were moments where Tim and Lucy seemed to be repairing their connection after a serious betrayal of trust from Tim, The Rookie season 7 made it clear that the pair weren’t jumping back into anything serious right away. Instead, a string of hookups and near-conversations left viewers confused about where they stood ahead of the finale, when Tim abruptly asked Lucy to move in with him.
In the recently released trailer for The Rookie season 8, Tim and Lucy share a terse moment that point to more trouble ahead in lieu of a smooth reconciliation, which felt all but promised by the show’s creator, Alexi Hawley.
The Rookie Season 8’s Trailer Reveals A Major Chenford Moment
With The Rookie’s season 8 premiere just around the corner, the full trailer for the season has finally been released and fans of Chenford were shocked to find a moment of relationship drama in the action-packed first look. During the trailer, Tim tells Lucy that he wants to ask her to move in with him, calling back to an unresolved moment in the show’s season 7 finale.
Seemingly hopeful, it’s clear that Tim’s intentions are to approach the subject again, but Lucy’s response is less-than-thrilled. Telling Tim hebroke her heart and created a “scar so deep it might never fade”, Lucy makes it clear that she’s not entirely over Tim ending their relationship without warning or reason. While the scene is clearly edited, The Rookie’s romantic reconciliation may be tougher than anticipated.
Lucy’s Potential Rejection Could Delay Chenford’s Inevitable Reconciliation
Although Hawley has been upfront about the direction Chenford will be taking in the upcoming season, all but confirming that the pairing will get back together during The Rookieseason 8, it’s clear that there’s more to the story than a simple reconciliation. Lucy pushing back against Tim’s ask, which would jettison them from being broken up to living together without a resolution in between, could create tension.
While fans of Tim and Lucy have been hopeful about seeing the pair back together as soon as possible, giving the former couple a bit of breathing room before they dive into another shot at romance may not be a bad thing. Despite Tim and Lucy clearly having romantic feelings for one another, The Rookie is best when it’s dragging that tension out slowly.
