‘NCIS: Sydney’ Hit With Unexpected Hiatus Ahead of Season 3 Mid-Season Finale

The Season 3 mid-season finale of NCIS: Sydney has been delayed due to the show’s unexpected hiatus. This latest installment first aired back on October 14, 2025, and the ninth episode was scheduled to air on Tuesday. Unfortunately, it was pulled, and fans will have to wait to see what happens next to this task force from down under.

According to TVLine, the Season 3 fall finale, scheduled to air on December 16 at 8 pm, was pulled from CBS, and the network has not provided a reason for the decision. Instead, it was replaced by a rerun of NCIS Season 22. An official return date has yet to be announced. According to Paramount, NCIS: Sydney Season 3 will feature a larger episode count, with the latest installment set to include 20 new episodes. That total doubles Season 2’s run and brings the series to 38 episodes across its first three seasons.

NCIS: Sydney‘s Season 3’s ninth episode, titled “South of Nowhere,” reads: “The team races to an Antarctica research base to investigate why a climate scientist killed a colleague on Polar Night Eve – and make it out before their plane engine freezes and they’re trapped in darkness for six months.” This will be the first episode of the spin-off, in which the team leaves the country. However, Australia has claimed a section of the Antarctic continent, which it calls the Australian Antarctic Territory, and is inhabited by research station staff. Images of the upcoming episode were released, with the potential suspect handcuffed on a chair.

NCIS: Sydney Season 3 continues where Season 2 left off, as the team recovers from Darwin, but Blue (Mavournee Hazel) has resigned following an incident during the Season 2 finale. Replacing her is Travis Riggs (aka Trigger), played by Claude Jabbour, who was given the gig as a favor to Sergeant Jim Dempsey (Todd Lasance) and his AFP co-worker. Season 3 has also revealed Blue’s backstory, revealing that she lied about her past, including her qualifications. So, having her return to the NCIS: Sydney team became a problem, especially since she’s highly skilled and a valuable asset. Meanwhile, NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey (Olivia Swann) discovers that she’s a target on someone’s hit list and kept it a secret from her team, and reached out to a fully recovered Richard Rankin (Lewis Fitz-Gerald) to find out why someone, under the name of “Ghost,” is after her.

The cases in NCIS: Sydney Season 3 have ramped up significantly, spanning everything from thwarting terror plots to uncovering cults and bioweapons, to high-stakes international affairs beyond the U.S., and even extraterrestrial threats. The season also pushes the series further into its Australian identity, venturing into the outback for the first time and highlighting the brutal realities of the country’s dry, scorching terrain.
