If you were still holding out hope that Kit Harington might one day wander back into the snowy wilderness as Jon Snow, it may be time to finally let that dream go. The Game of Thrones star has delivered his most definitive answer yet about returning to the role that defined more than a decade of his career — and it’s about as blunt as it gets.
“No, god no,” Harington told Variety when asked whether he’d consider reprising Jon Snow for an audiobook or any otherGame of Thrones project. “I don’t wanna go anywhere near it. I spent 10 years doing that. Thanks, I’m alright.”
That response came after Harington recently recorded a role for Audible’s new Harry Potter audio drama adaptation, where he plays the wildly different — and far less emotionally scarred — Gilderoy Lockhart. The contrast naturally prompted questions about whether he might ever return to Westeros in audio form, but Harington’s answer makes it clear that chapter of his life is firmly closed.
Is Kit Harington Making a Jon Snow Sequel?
His comments also seem to seal the fate of the long-rumored Jon Snow spin-off, Snow. Back in 2022, George R. R. Martin confirmed HBO was developing the series, with Harington deeply involved in shaping its direction. At the time, the actor spoke openly about wanting to explore Jon’s mental state after the events of the Game of Thrones finale.
“He’s gotta go back up to the place with all this history and live out his life thinking about how he killed Dany, and live out his life thinking about Ygritte dying in his arms, and live out his life thinking about how he hung Olly, and live out his life thinking about all of this trauma, and that, that’s interesting,”
Not exactly the most optimistic of outlooks, truly. In another interview last year, he pointed out that a sequel runs into immediate problems because “a lot of the cast are done with it,” which leads to the awkward question of who you’re actually bringing back — and whether the story justifies the return. In his case, he said the longer they worked on it, the less sense it made to pull him back into that world unless it was truly worth it.
HBO has already renewed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for Season 2 (set for 2027) ahead of the show’s Season 1 debut on January 18, 2026. And House of the Dragon Season 3 is slated for summer 2026, with a fourth season planned for 2028.
