SNL Recap: Weekend Update Goes After Stranger Things and Knives Out’s Josh O’Connor Hosts

The cast members of Saturday Night Live showed off their musical skills in this week’s episode. From singing about destroying the cast of Stranger Things to an awkward brunch number, music was in the air.

Josh O’Connor’s Monologue

Josh O’Connor, one of the stars of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Story and The Crown, was the host this week, and Lily Allen was the musical guest. During his monologue, O’Connor told a story about how he mentioned Ratatouille was one of his favorite movies once, and it triggered a wave of fans demanding that he star as Alfredo Linguini in a live-action adaptation. They were so persistent that Disney had to make a statement saying that it would never happen. And the actor joked about how awkward it felt to get rejected for a job he didn’t even want.

A Musical Weekend Update

The Weekend Update segment of SNL shook things up this week. Cast member Jane Wickline joined Colin Jost and Michael Che to warn the audience of a very serious problem, the cast of Stranger Things. She sang a song about how, since stars were no longer child actors, and with the show coming to a close, all actors should be concerned. Wickline’s song claimed that all older actors will be replaced by the talented young cast of the hit Netflix show. She even joked about Finn Wolfhard being the devil to her.

A Year In Review From Uber Eats

One of the funnier sketches this week was a riff on Spotify’s annual recap of the music its users listened to in 2025. Instead of music, the SNL cast members got to see what they ordered from Uber Eats this year and how much money they spent on the food delivery service. And, the results were pretty relatable. Realizing the amount of money spent annually on the app and how much junk food was consumed was not a fun surprise for the characters in the segment.

Variety’s Actors On Actors SNL-Style

Saturday Night Live offered its own version of Variety’s popular Actor on Actors talk show. A new sketch titled Characters on Characters depicted classic Christmas icons speaking to each other. The characters ranged from traditional songs and figures to classic films. Tiny Tim (Marcello Hernández) from A Christmas Carol interviewed the Little Drummer Boy (Kenan Thompson) while the Grinch (Mikey Day) and Scrooge (James Austin Johnson) discussed their careers.

Last Impressions

There were definitely some hits and misses in this week’s Saturday Night Live. The segments listed above were just a few of the highlights of the night. While there was a good amount of Holiday cheer throughout the episode, there were some awkward moments, such as a brunch where all the characters sing their thoughts or a bachelorette party with overly sensitive strippers.

Saturday Night Live airs every Saturday at 11:30 PM ET and 8:30 PM PT on NBC.
