Marvel Rivals has created some of the coolest skins for its wide roster of playable characters, many of which are directly inspired by the original comics. Although the vast majority of these comic-accurate costumes are quite impressive, we’ve picked a handful of our favorites that are a cut above.
What makes these peak skins stand out is the clear respect for the source material (like December’s upcoming “I’m Not Daredevil” skin). Each pulls directly from meaningful comic appearances as strong homages, while also featuring some pretty cool design tweaks to make each feel like it’s part of the overall Marvel Rivals art style.
Keeping that in mind, here are 8 of our favorite Marvel Rivals skins adapted straight from the comics.
Iron Man: Extrembiote Armor
Iron Man’s Extrembiote Armor first appeared in King in Black (2020) #2, during Knull’s invasion of Earth. Tony bonded his armor with a symbiote as a last-ditch measure, taking a huge risk by embracing something super dangerous to fight a literal god of darkness.
Marvel Rivals sharpens that idea with their design for Iron Man’s Extrembiote Armor. The symbiote elements feel more hostile and alive, clearly at odds with Stark’s need for control.
The costume also features an incredible MVP highlight animation, showcasing Iron Man in his alien armor while riding one of Knull’s symbiote dragons, which he used to cover the Earth in the original comics event.
Bruce Banner: Green Scar
The Green Scar first debuted in Hulk (1999) #92, marking the start of Planet Hulk. Exiled by Earth’s heroes, Hulk became a gladiator and later the king of Sakaar, embracing a brutal new era on the page that eventually became the basis for the MCU Hulk’s similar gladiator look in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.
Marvel Rivals exaggerates Green Scar in some pretty cool ways, like giving a gladiator look to Bruce Banner as well. The armor also looks to be heavier and more detailed across the board, while also giving Hulk some white tattoos that are reminiscent of the MCU version.
Thor: Herald of Thunder
Thor’s Herald of Thunder armor first appeared in Thor (2020) #1, when the Son of Odin served Galactus to stop the cosmic force known as “The Black Winter”.
The suit symbolizes Thor choosing cosmic necessity over his own pride, accepting a role he was basically forced into by the World Devourer to save all of existence. It’s very cool to see the costume translated as a Marvel Rivals skin, one of the very first to be added to the game.
Magneto: Trial of Magneto
While Magneto’s Trial-era look dates back to Uncanny X-Men (1963) #200, it was also featured more recently in 2024’s X-Men ’97 with the animated revival adapting the same storyline, as Erik Lehnsherr faced judgment for his past actions as leader of the Brotherhood of Mutants, the aftermath of which saw Magneto taking over Xavier’s School for Gifted Mutants.
Beyond being ripped straight off the page, The Trial of Magneto skin also comes with an awesome emote that puts the Master of Magnetism in chains (recreating the cover art), as well as an epic MVP animation that shows him in court amid a hail of gunfire. Featuring Magneto’s signature long hair, purple cape, and no helmet, the costume is an absolute banger.
Star-Lord: Starlit Outlaw
Star-Lord’s “Starlit Outlaw” cowboy costume debuted in Guardians of the Galaxy (2023) #1. This era re-imagined Peter Quill as a wandering cosmic outlaw (hat and all), leaning into space-western mythology more than ever before during the absolute wild “Grootfall” storyline.
To see the skin translated to Marvel Rivals with some added design elements is super cool, providing a very unique look for one of the game’s best DPS characters.
Spider-Man: Iron Spider
The Iron Spider suit first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man (1999) #529, gifted to Peter Parker by Tony Stark during the Marvel Universe’s first Civil War event, shortly after Peter Parker revealed his secret identity to the entire world.
Featuring a red and gold color scheme in alignment with Iron Man himself, the Iron Spider suit features three gold deployable arms, which in turn can be deployed during Spider-Man’s Ultimate movie and via a special emote that comes with the Iron Spider skin.
There’s also a great spray recreating the panel where Punisher brings Peter Parker to Captain America’s side to receive medical attention, shortly after Spider-Man decided to defect.
Mister Fantastic: The Maker
The Maker variant of Reed Richards debuted in Ultimate Comics’ Ultimates (2011) #2. This version of Mister Fantastic has since become one of the most dangerous villains in the entire Marvel Multiverse, having abandoned empathy entirely and embracing cold, sinister logic without mercy or restraint, seeking to remake entire universes in his warped image.
It can be argued that the Marvel Rivals design for The Maker heightens that detachment. There’s a more rigid design that helps minimize his humanity further, ironically making Reed feel less flexible and far more intimidating.
Rogue: Savage South
One of the most recent skins to debut in Marvel Rivals, Rogue’s Savage Land costume first appeared in Uncanny X-Men (1963) #269, during a storyline that stripped her of powers and forced her to survive on instinct alone as she fought her way through the prehistoric Savage Land. This was also the period in the comics where she and Magneto had a brief relationship.
Looking exactly like it does on the page with her ripped yellow and green X-Men clothes, dinosaur teeth, and makeshift pouches, the design for Rogue’s Savage Land costume in Rivals emphasizes both Rogue’s beauty and physical presence as an absolute powerhouse (especially with the skin’s MVP animation, where she swings from a vine before punching out a velociraptor).
