Ross Duffer, the co-creator of Stranger Things, revealed that volume 2 of the hit show’s final season will be far more grim and anxiety-inducing than the first installment of its last chapter.
On Thursday, Duffer shared an update about Stranger Things season 5 volume 2 in a post on his official Instagram account. He offered viewers a preview of what’s in store for the upcoming episodes, which will be released on Christmas Day (December 25, 2025), including their titles and directors.
Duffer included tiny pieces of information regarding each episode in his post. He said that the penultimate episode of the Netflix science fiction horror show would leave audiences on the edge of their seats. He added that the seemingly short 6-day wait for the series finale would be nearly unbearable. “It’s gonna be a long six day wait for the finale,” the creator teased.
“Shock Jock” picks up moments after the end of “Sorcerer”. Frank Darabont is back, but he flexes very different muscles on this one than he did on “Turnbow Trap”— it’s far darker, and far scarier.
“Escape from Camazotz” is Shawn Levy’s return to the director’s chair. It’s the biggest episode of the three— and the performances make us cry every time we watch it.
“The Bridge”… we co-directed this one with Shawn. Don’t want to say too much, but aside from the finale, it’s probably the most emotional chapter of the season.
According to Duffer, “Shock Jock” will seemingly take a dark turn, picking up after where “Sorcerer,” the last episode of volume 1, left off. Frank Darabont will also return to direct the first chapter of volume 2.
Darabont won’t be the only returning director for Stranger Things. Shawn Levy will come back for “Escape from Camazotz.” The co-creator explained how this will be the “biggest” episode of the trio. He claimed that the actors’ outstanding performances and the heartwrenching storyline brought everyone on set to tears, and he is sure that it will do the same to the audience.
The final episode of Stranger Things season 5 volume 2, “The Bridge,” will be directed by both the Duffer Brothers and Levy. The creator was more cryptic about this one. The only thing he would reveal is that this episode would likely be the most “emotional” one of the entire season.
Stranger Things season 5 volume 1 is now available to stream on Netflix. Volume 2 will be released on December 25, 2025, and the series finale will premiere on December 31, 2025.
