Brat Summer is officially heading to Sundance next year. Yesterday, the landmark film festival unveiled its massive 2026 slate, which happened to include pop star Charli XCX‘s upcoming new mockumentary, The Moment. Now, following the announcement, a new trailer has been released that offers the best look yet at the chaos that’s to come in the not-so-true story of the icon’s first arena tour. After it makes its world premiere at the prestigious film festival, the film will hit theaters throughout the U.S. on January 30.
Directed by music video helmer Aidan Zamiri in his feature debut, The Moment was born from an original idea by Charli XCX based on her experiences coming off the Sweat concert tour with Troye Sivan, her Brat tour, and the immense pressure instilled by the music industry. It came about in part because of the push she felt to do a concert documentary after soaring to new heights of fame, even though the idea never appealed to her. Instead, the film puts a twist on the concept, following a heightened version of the British sensation as she tries to navigate the complexities of fame while preparing for her arena tour debut. Her sanity is tested as she faces all sorts of complications and forces that threaten to make this defining moment of her rise a disaster.
Accompanying the pop icon in her ambitious mockumentary is an intriguing mix of stars, including Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Jamie Demetriou, Arielle Dombasle, Hailey Benton Gates, Kylie Jenner, Trew Mullen, Mel Ottenberg, Isaac Powell, Rachel Sennott, Rish Shah, Alexander Skarsgård, and Michael Workéyè. The Moment also pairs Charli XCX up with indie giant A24, with the star producing alongside David Hinojosa. In addition to directing, Zamiri penned the screenplay based on her ideas, alongside Bertie Brandes.
‘The Moment’ Is Just the Latest Effort in Charli XCX’s Hollywood Rise
Hot off taking over the summer in 2024, Charli XCX has become a hot commodity in Hollywood. In 2025 alone, she appeared in the Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy-fronted action comedy Sacrifice at the Toronto International Film Festival, as well as the Emma Corrin-led 100 Nights of Hero and the romantic drama Erupcja. The Moment isn’t even the only film she’s appearing in at Sundance, as she also boasts a role in Gregg Araki‘s buzzy I Want Your Sex and the Jenna Ortega and Natalie Portman venture The Gallerist. At risk of a pun, she’s having a moment on the big screen right now, and that’s without considering her guest appearance and executive production role in Benito Skinner‘s breakout hit series Overcompensating.
The Moment will debut at the Sundance Film Festival before arriving in theaters nationwide on January 30. Check out the new trailer in the player above.
