Netflix is landing a huge success with one of its non-English speaking franchises as the year gets ready to close out. As Hollywood is still seeing various successes with the monster genre, one of the franchises with a movie sequel in 2025 has just debuted their latest installment.
Released on December 1, Troll 2 has already emerged as a global hit for Netflix, as it is currently the #1 non-English speaking film. However, as the sequel gained momentum for the week of December 1–December 7, 2025, the first film is also surging in the streaming charts.

When 2022’s Troll premiered on Netflix in December 2022, the Roar Uthaug-directed entry became a global hit then, as it was trending at #1. According to Netflix data, the film had 75.8 million hours viewed.
The original installment is currently the most popular non-English movie on Netflix’s all-time charts with over 103 million views. With the latest numbers, it appears that the sequel is nearly a third of the way to repeating the same success as the original 2022 movie.
If the strong viewership persists and remains consistent, it’s possible that the follow-up could join Netflix’s all-time Top 10 charts and be enough to knock out Through My Window, which has 61,100,000 views.
The streaming success is coming not long after the critical reception to Netflix’s Troll 2 has been extremely negative. At the time of this story’s publication on Rotten Tomatoes, the second installment is sitting on a 50% critics’ score, based on 16 reviews.
The Popcornmeter, however, is even lower, as Troll 2 has 37%, which is significant, given that the first Troll movie had a 90% critics’ score, while having a 51% audience score.
The Troll 2 cast features the return of Ine Marie Wilmann as Nora Tidemann, Mads Sjøgård Pettersen, and Kim Falck as Andreas Isaksen from the first movie. The 2025 entry was written by Espen Aukan and Uthaug, as they also wrote the 2022 project.
Despite its reception with critics and audiences, time will tell if a third installment will end up getting greenlit by the massive streaming platform, as Netflix is currently looking to buy Warner Bros. Discovery. Both Troll and Troll 2 are streaming on Netflix.
