Netflix users who’ve subscribed to the ad-supported tier will find that as many as 135 titles are unavailable to them this month. This means that around 1.5% of the streamer’s total library is inaccessible, and among the barred titles is the World War 2 hit Fury. Released in 2014, the film is particularly memorable for its unflinching portrayal of the horrors of war. Fury was directed by David Ayer, who immediately moved on to the DC Extended Universe movie Suicide Squad, and then spent the better part of a decade rebuilding his career brick by brick after that film’s critical failure. He’s now set to reunite with his Fury star Brad Pitt on his biggest project since that film.
Fury also features Shia LaBeouf, Michael Peña, Jon Bernthal, and Logan Lerman as the audience surrogate character. The movie follows a tank crew during the final days of WW2, and grossed over $200 million worldwide against a budget that has been reported to be as high as $80 million. Furyearned mostly positive reviews, and is now sitting at a “certified fresh” 75% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics’ consensus reads, “Overall, Fury is a well-acted, suitably raw depiction of the horrors of war that offers visceral battle scenes but doesn’t quite live up to its larger ambitions.”
David Ayer and Brad Pitt Are Reuniting
Ayer has seen success in recent years with two Jason Statham vehicles — The Beekeeper, which grossed more than $150 million worldwide, andA Working Man, which made nearly $100 million worldwide. Pitt, on the other hand, recently headlined the biggest movie of his career, the sports drama F1, which made more than $600 million worldwide. The two are now collaborating on a survival drama titled Heart of the Beast, produced by the Oscar-winning director of La La Land and First Man, Damien Chazelle. Fury remains one of the most acclaimed and successful WWII movies of the 21st century, and was named as one of 2014’s top 10 films by the National Board of Review.
