George Clooney says Brad Pitt Still Teases Him Over This One Role

Brad Pitt once landed a role that George Clooney had also been vying for.

While both actors ended up becoming incredibly successful, Pitt allegedly still won’t let Clooney live it down, and maybe he never will. In an interview with The Times to discuss his new film Jay Kelly, with his co-star Adam Sandler, Clooney reflected on missing out on playing the role of J.D. in the classic film, Thelma & Louise. “I got to the final test for a role in Thelma & Louise. And, motherf***er, Brad got it,” he told the publication.

The actor admitted to resenting his colleague for a long time. While Pitt’s career soared after the film was released, Clooney continued to portray secondary characters in TV shows such as Bodies of Evidence throughout much of the 90s.

He also revealed that he couldn’t bring himself to watch Thelma & Louise because the experience left such a bad taste in his mouth. “I didn’t watch Thelma & Louise for years because I was annoyed. The part launched his career in film. He was doing sitcoms and crap before, so when it was the thing that could’ve launched me? F***!!” he explained.

However, now that many decades have passed, Clooney decided to let it go. He eventually watched the film and agreed that the casting team made the right decision by going with Pitt because he was perfect for the role. And, according to him, Pitt was aware of that too, as he still “gives him s***” about it all the time.

Oh yeah, he gives me s***. Of course, when I saw it, I was, like, well, it had to be that guy.

Sandler then joined in on the fun. He agreed that Pitt was great as J.D. However, he jokingly said that his co-star should have been the one to star in Thelma & Louise. The actor added, “I saw that at the cinema and when Brad took his shirt off, people went nuts. But it should have been you, Clooney.”

Jay Kelly is a comedy-drama film starring Clooney and Sandler. The movie is directed by Noah Baumbach and is in theaters now.
