Only one DChero deserves to witness the end of all things. The end of the universe is inevitable, even in worlds where superheroes fight cosmic threats every day. In the DC Universe, countless storylines have addressed the idea that everything must eventually come to a close, whether by an existential enemy like Darkseid finally imposing the Anti-Life Equation or simply through the slow decay of the cosmos via entropy.
Future State is a line-wide DC crossover event that presented snapshots of what may happen decades, centuries, and millennia in the future. It briefly paused ongoing titles in 2021 to explore these alternate futures and ended the whole universe with one member of the DC Trinity at the center. While Future State only presents a possible future, it cements one character as the heart of the DC Universe.
Wonder Woman Is DC’s Final Superhero In Future State’s Timeline

DC’s Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman takes place in a far future in which Diana of Themyscira becomes one of the last surviving superheroes at the end of time. In this possible-future timeline, humanity and the age of heroes have ended, but Wonder Woman continues fighting the Undoing in defense of existence itself. Although it’s not the main continuity, this Wonder Woman is essentially the same character readers know and love.
Besides Wonder Woman, only Swamp Thing, Superman, and the Spectre remain. However, Swamp Thing decays and takes the Green with him, Superman dies in the sun fighting Darkseid, and the Spectre finally rests with Diana’s help. Wonder Woman also has one final exchange with a hologram of Batman, and she takes his utility belt in his honor.

Wonder Woman Is The Most Likely Hero To Be There To Witness The End
Wonder Woman has been around long before Batman and Superman were even born, and she will keep fighting long after they’re gone. Diana entered the age of heroes as a seasoned warrior already dedicated to championing justice. It’s only fitting that someone who helped usher in DC’s heroic age would still be standing after it comes to an end.
Diana’s Amazonian genes make her far more likely to survive long after her allies and rivals have passed. But not only is she incredibly long-lived, but unlike Superman and Aquaman, it’s in her very nature to focus on fighting indefinitely, and her body is designed to do just that. Wonder Woman can continue fighting for centuries, perhaps millennia, and her sense of responsibility ensures she will never willingly retire.
Even though entities such as the Spectre and Swamp Thing can outlive Wonder Woman, they differ in one crucial aspect. Diana always remains emotionally invested in the fate of individual lives and all life across the universe, not just cosmic balance. Wonder Woman will still fight and stand tall once the lights begin to fade across the universe.
