Before His Star Wars Debut, Ryan Gosling’s Must-Watch Sci-Fi Thriller Gets an Epic New Trailer

Ryan Gosling will make his Star Wars debut in Shawn Levy’s Starfighter in 2027, but before he ventures to a Galaxy Far, Far Away, he’ll star in another sci-fi thriller that just got a must-watch new trailer. Amazon MGM has released the second official trailer for Project Hail Mary, the space movie coming to theaters on March 20, 2026. Gosling stars in the film as Ryland Grace, a scientist who wakes up in outer space with a mission to save the world. The first Project Hail Mary trailer debuted earlier this year and shattered viewership records with over 400 million views.

In addition to Gosling in the lead role of Ryland Grace, Project Hail Mary also stars Sandra Hüller as Eva Stratt, Liz Kingsman as Annie Shapiro, and more. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir, the acclaimed author who has delivered several pieces of general science-fiction. He most famously wrote The Martian, the novel that was turned into the 2015 film starring Matt Damon and directed by Ridley Scott. Project Hail Mary has the potential to be not only as good as The Martian, but even better. Sci-fi fans are in for a treat next year.

The story of Project Hail Mary unfolds over two timelines in the book, which will certainly translate into the live-action adaptation. One timeline follows Ryland Grace in space as he works to remember who he is and save the world from a deadly space algae that’s consuming the sun. Another follows Ryland Grace on Earth as he studies the mysterious substance known as astrophage and teaches them to scientists training for a special mission. These two timelines finally come to a head with shocking revelations as Ryland Grace even finds something (or someone) in deep space that can help with his mission. The new trailer for Project Hail Mary also shows the first full look at Rocky, the alien that Ryland Grace meets in outer space that helps him on his mission to save Earth.

When Does Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars Movie Come Out?

Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars movie will be released exclusively in theaters on May 28, 2027. Titled Starfighter, plot details about the film are being kept under wraps, but it’s confirmed to be an entirely original story with new characters not tied to any prior Star Wars movie or show. Amy Adams, Mia Goth, and Matt Smith will also star in the film, which was written by Jonathan Tropper. Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) is directing.
