‘Demon Slayer’ Film Franchise Hits Billion at the Global Box Office

It’s been two months sinceDemon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castleentered Western theaters, and it’s already a box-office hit. And with the recent box-office push, the anime franchise broke a massive milestone. As of writing, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has generated over $729 million at the box office, making it the fifth-highest-grossing movie of the year. According to the latest box office numbers, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has generated over $1.3 billion at the box office across all its films.

While half of that money came from the 2025 anime feature, $512 million of the anime’s film revenue came from 2021’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba—The Movie: Mugen Train. At the moment, it’s too early to tell if Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle will generate $1 billion by the end of the year, as box office earnings have slowed down recently. But due to the film’s popularity and Crunchyroll encouraging fans to see it in theaters, since it’s not entering streaming platforms this year, there’s a slight chance that Infinity Castle could break the box office charts with little time left.

Demon Slayer isn’t the only anime film released this year. Back in October, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc entered Western markets and has currently generated over $168 million worldwide. While its earnings were not as high as Demon Slayer’s, it still received a lot of praise from fans and critics alike. The success of anime films and their ability to drive audiences to theaters has caught the industry’s attention, with reports thatSolo Leveling could follow a similar path in 2026.

What’s ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba’ About?

Based on Koyoharu Gotouge‘s 2016 manga series of the same name, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba is a four-season anime that follows Tanjiro Kamado (Zach Aguilar), a young boy who becomes a demon slayer after a demon attack kills his family and turns his sister, Nezuko (Abby Trott), into a demon. Throughout the show, he slowly hones his craft, learning breathing techniques, in hopes of finding a cure for his sister and killing Muzan, the demon king, once and for all.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is the first adaptation of Demon Slayer’s “Final Battle” arc, as the Demon Slayer Corps go up against Muzan and his demon army. The film featured the anime’s main voice cast, including Channing Tatum as Keizo. Since its release, Demon Slayer has broken many box-office milestones, including one previously held by Pokémon in 1999. It was reported that there will be two follow-up films, but no official release date has been announced yet.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is showing in theaters. Meanwhile, the anime series is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
