Eva LaRue says Natalia was irredeemable on General Hospital
While Eva LaRue has shows like CSI: Miami and All My Children to be proud of, her portrayal of Natalia Rogers-Ramirez on General Hospital comes up often. In her My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story docuseries, LaRue speaks about the role.
“She’s horrible,” she told Soaps.com. “I didn’t know when I took the role how ugly she was going to get. It was rough to play, especially coming from playing Maria Santos [on All My Children] . The audience at General Hospital just despised me. So, it’s hard to play and it’s hard to do. I did not realize how bad she was going to get.”
The 58-year-old actress even revealed that the showriters tried to create a redemption arc, though it never worked out.
“They tried to rehabilitate her,” the Daytime Emmy-winning actress shared. “They tried to, but I don’t think it was enough or fast enough or detailed enough for her. Then they finally were like, ‘Yeah, this is not working.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, it’s kind of not. Thanks for the play time, guys. I gotta go.”
LaRue’s documentary recounts her terrifying encounter with an unknown stalker who terrorized her and her daughter, Kaya McKenna Callahan, for 12 years. The stalker reportedly sent her dozens of threatening letters under the pseudonym “Freddie Krueger.” Furthermore, the stalker followed them to Italy and broke into their room, where the two were enjoying their summer.
These traumatic experience deeply affected their lives, causing lasting psychological trauma. During the same interview, The Young and the Restless actress recalled her experience over the 12 years. She said, “I broke out in a rash. My eyelashes were falling out. I was a wreck.”
