It’s been over a month since Taylor Swift‘s 12th studio album, The Life Of A Showgirl, dropped. Swift’s work was an instant success, selling over 4 million copies in its first week, the highest first-week sales for any album in history.
Swift celebrated her album release with a movie event, which allowed fans to watch “The Fate Of Ophelia,” the album track lyric videos, as well as behind-the-scenes footage and song explainers from Swift herself. The “All Too Well” singer later announced a Disney+ Eras Tour documentary as well as the pro-shot of the final Eras Tour show.
The Life Of A Showgirl Earnings & Broken Records
As of October 28, 2025, Swift’s latest album has garnered $135 million. According to E!, Swift acquired that much from her first week’s sales alone. While the album has certainly continued selling copies since, there haven’t been any updates on how much she’s earned.
It’s not just money that Swift’s earned but a whole new list of broken records, too. Along with her high first-week sales, Swift has accomplished more with The Life Of A Showgirl than haters would like to know. Thanks to the LP’s lead single, “The Fate Of Ophelia,” Swift has become the first artist to have an album and song debut at #1 on Billboard Hot 100 and stay there for a month.
Swift also had all twelve of the album’s tracks debuting uninterrupted at #1-12 on the charts. Her past two albums, Midnights and The Tortured Poets Department, dominated the top 10, but this is her first album, and the first in history, to have all tracks at the top.
Swift also broke the record for the most number one albums in the 21st century, the most number one albums for a solo artist, the most vinyl sales in history, and the biggest debut in Amazon Music history, among many other records.
How Has The Album’s Lead Single The Fate Of Ophelia Performed?
Swift’s The Life Of A Showgirl lead single “The Fate Of Ophelia” is gearing up to perform as well as Swift’s Midnights single “Anti-Hero.” Billboardrecently announced the song has reached its fifth week at number one, making it Swift’s third single to do so.
“Anti-Hero” spent eight weeks at number one in 2022, and “Blank Space” spent seven back in 2014. “The Fate Of Ophelia” also became an instant hit on TikTok, especially among Disney fans who used the song’s chorus lyrics “keep it 100 on the land, the sea, the sky” to show off their favorite areas of the Disney Parks, specifically those in Epcot.
As for the track’s music video, it received 13.3 million views in its first 24 hours, becoming the biggest 24-hour solo debut on YouTube in 2025. The video has also gotten a lot of positive reactions, including from Harper’s Bazaar, which called it her greatest music video so far.
Does The General Public Like The Life Of A Showgirl?
The Life Of A Showgirl, while something Swift was incredibly proud of, was actually quite divisive. While some fans loved the fun love songs Swift wrote for her fiancé, Travis Kelce, others felt the album was immature and did not live up to her past work.
Since Folklore, Swifties have had high expectations when it comes to Swift’s writing. While she’s done tons of pop music in the past, they still felt those songs were stronger than the pop songs on her new album. Fans complained about cringey lyrics, bad production, and themes that didn’t fit the aesthetic Swift had built with her album photoshoot.
Fans were especially harsh about particular songs like “Wood” and “Actually Romantic.” The latter is allegedly about a recent feud between Swift and Charli XCX. Since the Brat artist had so much success last year, a lot of people are on her side and feel like Swift’s diss track was embarrassing and unnecessary.
How Does Swift Feel About Her 12th Studio Album?
Despite the negative reactions to The Life Of A Showgirl, Swift was incredibly proud when her album hit streaming and stores on October 3. Swift said the album “just feels so right” and later thanked her fans for how many copies they bought in its first week.
Swift has not responded to any of the album backlash. However, in her August New Heightsappearance, she mentioned she is very open to constructive criticism.
Swift avoided working with Jack Antonoff for her latest project after many felt their creations were starting to sound tired. In this author’s opinion, the pop princess will likely head back to the studio when the mood strikes, (perhaps post nuptials?) with a batch of fresh ideas on how to improve and impress her fans again.
