Catherine Zeta-Jones spoke about the future of Netflix’s Wednesday and teased potential new cast additions. During a recent event, she offered playful casting suggestions while reflecting on her experience playing Morticia Addams.
Catherine Zeta-Jones says Danny DeVito should play Cousin It on Wednesday
Catherine Zeta-Jones discussed casting ideas for Netflix’s Wednesday at the show’s FYC event in Hollywood. The actress, who portrays Morticia Addams, told Variety that she would like to see Danny DeVito, who played the Penguin in Batman Returns, appear in the series. “I don’t know how Danny DeVito hasn’t been cast already,” Zeta-Jones said, referencing her long friendship with DeVito and her husband, Michael Douglas.
Zeta-Jones revealed that she and Douglas recently celebrated their shared birthday with DeVito on September 25. “I was with him for our birthday in September and I was like, ‘Why isn’t Danny DeVito in Wednesday?’” she said. The actress then playfully suggested a possible role for him, adding, “Imagine Danny DeVito as Cousin It? That’d be so cool.”
She continued, acknowledging DeVito’s potential reaction to her idea: “He’s gonna kill me for that. He’s like, ‘Yeah, they’re going to cast me and put hair all over my face. Thanks for suggesting that, Catherine.’” Zeta-Jones’ comments follow the show’s previous casting headlines involving Lady Gaga, who filmed a secret cameo for Season 2.
Discussing Gaga’s involvement, Zeta-Jones said, “It was top secret. I don’t tell Michael. I don’t tell my kids. I’m a good girl, right? I don’t tell anybody.” She added that she felt like “a 17-year-old groupie” upon meeting the singer, calling her “a generational talent” and expressing interest in collaborating again.
Netflix will begin production on Season 3 next year. Zeta-Jones said she hasn’t received the new scripts yet, but hopes the upcoming episodes will explore Morticia’s relationship with her mother and her evolving dynamic with Wednesday.
