There are well over 15,000 movies on Prime Video, and for Prime subscribers, finding new films to watch can be overwhelming. Every month, Amazon adds new movies to its streaming service while removing specific titles that are switching over to rival streamers like Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, and more. It makes finding movies all the more confusing.
However, great titles are streaming on Prime Video this week that offer something for any movie fan, regardless of their favorite genre. These titles include Oscar-winning dramas, great film noir masterpieces, and a recent movie that has an eagerly awaited sequel coming in just a few weeks. Prime Video has movies for everyone this week.
Good Will Hunting (1997)
Good Will Hunting was the movie that made Matt Damon and Ben Affleck major Hollywood players. That is because not only did they star in the film, but the actors also won Oscars for writing the screenplay. Damon starred as Will Hunting, a mathematics prodigy from the wrong side of the tracks who had a chance for a better life.
Robin Williams was the standout here, playing Will’s mentor in a rare dramatic role that won him an Oscar. There is a lot to love about this Gus Van Sant movie, and it was easily one of the best of Damon, Affleck, and Williams’ careers.
There are many dramas available to watch this week on Prime Video, and for fans of the 90s, there isn’t one much better than Good Will Hunting. If nothing else, watch it for Robin Williams’ award-winning, brilliant performance.
Double Indemnity (1944)
Double Indemnity is one of the best film noir movies in cinema history, and it is available to watch this week on Prime Video. Considered one of the best movies of director Billy Wilder’s career, Double Indemnity takes its title from an insurance policy clause that the film’s femme fatale uses for a murder scheme.
Barbara Stanwyck stars as Phyllis Dietrichson, a woman who wants her husband murdered and pulls in an insurance salesman named Walter Neff, played by Fred MacMurray. When she learns about the double indemnity clause that allows a person to get double the pay if a person dies by accidental means.
Stanwyck plays a perfect femme fatale, and MacMurray is great as the sucker she pulls in to ensure her scheme is a success. The ending is a shocking twist, and it delivered a great, dark film noir that went on to earn seven Oscar nominations, although it didn’t win any. It was added to the National Film Registry in 1992.
Wicked (2024)
Wicked: For Life comes out this Thanksgiving week, and for fans who want to catch up with the first film, or see it for the first time, the original Wicked is streaming this week on Prime Video. The movie follows the Wicked Witch of the West and Glenda the Good from The Wizard of Oz before Dorothy arrives.
The film is based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, and more specifically on the Broadway stage show by Winnie Holzman, which was based on it. The cast is spectacular, with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande delivering incredible musical numbers, and director John M. Chu masterfully framing every performance.
Wicked: For Life will end the story, and anyone wanting to find a great movie to watch on Prime Video this week has a great option with the first Wicked, just in time to get ready to see the sequel.
