We finally know when we’re officially saying goodbye to the Frasers. The eighth and final season of Outlander premieres on Starz on Friday, March 6, 2026.Sam Heughan and Caitríona Balfe return as Jamie and Claire Fraser, the couple at the center of the star-crossed, toe-curling, time-traveling romance fans have followed for the last eleven years. Fans got their first taste of goodbye to the show, based on the books by Diana Gabaldon, in the first trailer for the final season that premiered back in September. Beyond Balfe and Heughan, Sophie Skelton will return as Brianna MacKenzie, Richard Rankin returns as Roger MacKenzie, along with John Bell as Young Ian Murray, David Berry as Lord John Grey, Charles Vandervaart as William Ransom, and Izzy Meikle-Small as Rachel Murray.
The logline for Season 8 is as follows:
“As Season 8 begins, Jamie and Claire soon find the war has followed them home to Fraser’s Ridge, now a thriving settlement that has grown and flourished in their absence. With new arrivals and changes made during their years away, the Frasers are confronted with the question of what they are willing to sacrifice for the place they call home and, more importantly, what they would sacrifice to stay together. While the Frasers keep a united front against outside intruders, family secrets finally coming to light threaten to tear them apart from the inside. Although they’ve left the war for America’s freedom behind, their fight for Fraser’s Ridge has only just begun.”
What’s Next For the Frasers’ Story?
Earlier this year, Outlander: Blood of My Blood premiered. The prequel focused on the dual love stories of Jamie’s parents and Claire’s parents. The series was renewed for a second season even before it premiered in August. Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy play Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser; Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine play Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp. The series saw younger versions of Outlander favorites, along with new characters that help build these two love stories that eventually converge in the union of Jamie and Claire. When Roy spoke with Collider earlier this year, he said he’s received support from a likely source: the actor playing his son. He told Collider that Sam Heughan’s support “is everything.” He explained:
“One night, he texted me and asked me, ‘How are you doing? I know this is a lot, but you’re smashing it.’ That was something so simple, but it meant so much to me because he doesn’t have to do that. He could easily just go on with his life and go onto the next thing. That support and care really meant a lot to me. It’s been less advice and more just a pillar to lean on and give that support. He’s always said to me to just enjoy it and to really take my time with everything because it passes so quickly.”
Indeed, as Roy says, time has passed quickly. After nearly 12 years, Outlander‘s final season premieres March 6, 2026. Check out the trailer for the final season above. Stay with Collider for the latest updates.
