Boston Blue is bringing back Detective Maria Baez, played by actress Marisa Ramirez, and her relationship with Danny Reagan will be a real storyline. Previously, the whole plot was not given proper attention and was more of a fleeting mention.
The spinoff recently premiered its new episodes, and by the looks of it, Danny and Maria have clearly followed through with their pizza date. Right now, the couple seems to be working through a long-distance relationship. It is because Danny wants to be in Boston for his son, Sean, who has now become a rookie in the Boston PD.
Will Maria return to be with Danny in Boston Blue season 1?
The answer is yes. Maria is definitely returning to Boston Blue season 1 to be with Danny. However, she is not coming back just for romance. The writers have not written that relationship off.
Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis are the co-showrunners. They revealed that Naria’s visit in the premiere will not be the only time that viewers see her. They also do not seem to think that the couple can make a long-distance work between Boston and New York.
Margolis explained, “It’s not that long a drive [between New York and Boston] . It’s an even shorter plane ride, if that’s how you want to get there.” (viaSoaps.com)
Maria will appear on Boston Blue once again with Danny on the November 21 episode. And this will not be a subtle role either. The showrunners revealed that she will help Danny and her partner, Lena, in tracking down a serial home invader.
Despite them being a seemingly good pair, Sonnier tried to remind fans that everyone has problems, especially in adult relationships. Given that Danny has sons and Maria has her own daughter to look after, on top of a busy work schedule and long distance, this could give rise to complications. However, the producers feel like this could be treated as creative storytelling rather than a way to end the relationship.
