HBO’s newest comedy series, I Love LA, is poised to join the ranks of sharp, culturally resonant ensemble shows with its fascinating cast of characters. From the mind of Rachel Sennott, who’s best known for her appearance in 2020’s Shiva Baby, 2022’s Bodies Bodies Bodies, and 2023’s Bottoms, I Love LA will explore a friend group working, living, and struggling through Los Angeles.
Sennott created, wrote, and is starring in the HBO series, which premieres on Sunday, November 2 at 10:30 p.m. ET, and through eight episodes will introduce an even larger cast of characters. With Sennott’s comedic voice making the project a personal one, the series appears to be an observational, character-driven take on friendship, ambition, and life in Los Angeles.
Bringing together a group of actors in the main cast that some may recognize, the show also includes a group of performers who will set the scene in a true-to-life way. With Sennott playing Maia, an aspiring talent agent, and others joining in as influencers, stylists, and producers in the world of dazzling LA, I Love LA’s cast may prove to be iconic.
Rachel Sennott As Maia
Born September 19, 1995
Sennott was born in Simsbury, Connecticut and broke out after appearing in 2020’s Shiva Baby, written and directed by Emma Seligman. After studying acting at NYU Tisch, Sennott went deeper into comedy by performing at open mic nights and in student films. She found success as a personality on Twitter for years prior to her breakout role and developed content with her friend, future The Bear star Ayo Edebiri.
Rachel went on to appear in Bodies Bodies Bodies in 2022, and Bottoms, which she co-wrote with Seligman, in 2023. Sennott’s career has been aligned with her online persona, and her interest in being an authentic voice on social media has been an interesting part of her success. Her character in I Love LA, Maia, is described as ambitious and hopeful, looking to become a talent agent.
Odessa A’zion as Tallulah
Born June 17, 2000
Actress Odessa A’zion is an interesting type of legacy as the daughter of actress Pamela Adlon and German director Felix Adlon. While Pamela Adlon, best known as the voice of Bobby Hill on King Of The Hill, she hasn’t been an on screen presence for as long as she’s been an off screen one, which left A’zion and her siblings less exposure to the masses.
A’zion has emerged as a breakout talent recently, most notably with her roles in Neftlix’s 2020 series, Grand Academy, which brought her critical acclaim for the role of Joey Del Marco. Viewers may also recognize A’zion from 2022’s Hellraiser as Riley McKendry, or 2023’s Sitting In Bars With Cake as Corinne. In I Love LA, A’zion plays Tallulah, Maia’s old college friend who’s become a successful social-media influencer.
Jordan Firstman As Charlie
Born July 8, 1991
Jordan Firstman’s breakout role was in 2023’s Rotting In The Sun, a black comedy thriller film directed by Sebastian Silva, but rose to fame from his viral Instagram presence in earlier years. Originally from Long Island, New York, Firstman did viral impressions of culturally sound moments, characters, and jokes throughout the COVID-19 pandemic that brought him to a new level of fame.
Firstman’s work, after social media fame, became an interesting mosaic of culturally relevant TV shows and films. In 2020, he became a consulting producer on Netflix’s Big Mouth, then went on to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Ms. Marvel in a recurring role. Firstman released his first album in 2025, and will appear on I Love LA as Charlie, a celebrity stylist in West Hollywood.
True Whitaker As Alani
Born July 2, 1998
True Whitaker, daughter of acclaimed actor Forest Whitaker, is hoping to carve her own path with her role on I Love LA. Prior to the new HBO series, Whitaker had only appeared in sporadic episodes of her father’s series, Godfather Of Harlem, throughout the last few years. In the MGM+ series, True plays Sandra, who is seen throughout three seasons of the show.
While Whitaker may not have a ton of experience under her belt, her role in I Love LA is something that could easily bring her into the public consciousness. Playing Alani on I Love LA, Whitaker will be taking on the role of a nepo-baby working at her father’s production company. Aiming for authenticity and facing her identity, Alani’s likely going to have to balance life and privilege.
Josh Hutcherson As Dylan
Born October 12, 1992
Josh Hutcherson broke out in the role of Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games films, which released between 2012 and 2015. Prior to his role as Peeta, Hutcherson was a known child actor, most notably in The Bridge To Terabithia as Jesse Aarons in 2007. Hutcherson has also served as an executive producer for several films, including 2011’s Detention, 2012’s The Forger, and 2015’s Escobar: Paradise Lost.
Hutcherson most recently appeared in the films Five Nights At Freddy’s in 2023 and The Beekeeper in 2024, both of which brought him a fair amount of success. Coming into I Love LA as the most recognizable cast member, Hutcherson’s role of Dylan is an interesting one. As a teacher and Maia’s boyfriend, Dylan’s role outside the LA bubble will contrast to the rest of the cast.
