Halo: CE Remake – Everything We Know So Far

Halo: Campaign Evolved was officially announced at the 2025 Halo World Championship in October, giving players a remade and modernized experience with the original Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign. The Halo: CE remake will be the first Halo game playable on PlayStation consoles, a historical move that many thought would never happen.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a “ground-up remake” of the original campaign, with “expanded gameplay” on and across multiple platforms, including cross-play between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC. The game will focus solely on the campaign and will not include multiplayer PvP functionality.

Halo: Campaign Evolved Release Window & Platforms

The Halo: CE Remake Will Be Available On PlayStation 5 In 2026

Currently, Halo Studios has not announced an exact release date, but they’ve provided a release window in 2026, promising to introduce the essential Halo: CE experience to a new generation of players. Notably, with GTA 6‘s highly anticipated release set for May 2026, Halo: CE will likely want to avoid a conflicting window.

The Halo: CE remake will also be available on both Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as PC, for the first time in history. PlayStation support for Halo has highlighted just how different the FPS gaming landscape is compared to Halo: CE’s release in the 2000s.

Halo: CE Remake Trailer & Gameplay Details

Halo: Campaign Evolved Features New Story Missions

In terms of gameplay, the remake will be entirely dedicated to the Halo: CE campaign, meaning there will be no PvP multiplayer functionality, something that comes as a major disappointment to many fans of the franchise. However, Halo Studios claims (via Halo Waypoint) the campaign will feature the following:

  • New missions
  • Expanded gameplay
  • Two-player split-screen on consoles, online and networked co-op for up to four players on console and PC
  • Seamless cross-platform play with shared progression

The new missions in question will introduce “new characters, enemies, environments, and dangers in three new missions set before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved.” These missions will pit Master Chief alongside Sergeant Avery Johnson in completely original new chapters in the Halo universe.

The Halo: Campaign Evolved trailer was officially revealed at Halo World Championships 2025, alongside a 13-minute gameplay trailer showcasing the game’s updated graphics (see below). While it is currently available to wishlist for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, pre-order information is still unannounced.

Halo: CE Remake Adds New Weapons, Vehicle Upgrades, & Skulls

Halo: Campaign Evolved Features 9 Additional Halo Weapons

Halo: Campaign Evolved will featurenine additional weapons from the Halo universe that were not available in the original Halo: CE, including the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, Needle Rifle, and more instantly recognizable Halo weapons, alongside tried-and-true standbys.”

The game will also feature vehicle upgrades, letting Master Chief “hijack nearby enemy vehicles and add range to his repertoire at the helm of a Wraith tank.” There will also be an additional seat on the Warthog to accommodate all four members of the co-op team if necessary.

Further, one of the most iconic Halo skill challenges comes in the form of Skulls, and the Halo: CE remake will have the full arsenal at your disposal, allowing players to “remix” their experience“with the most gameplay-modifying Skulls of any Halo campaign.” Skull effects will range between “randomized weapons, altered enemy behavior, player attributes, environmental effects, and more.”

Halo: CE Remake Upgraded With Stunning Cinematics & Audio

Enhanced Graphics, Cinematics, & Audio Bring Halo: CE Into The Modern Age

Halo: Campaign Evolved promises “stunning cinematics” using “new motion-capture animations” as well as “freshly recorded dialog from returning cast members.” Further, there will be immersive audio with the new remastered soundtrack and “fully rebuilt sound design that brings Halo’s unmistakable weapons and vehicles to life in stunning fidelity.”

It’s worth noting that Halo Studios’ comments on the use of AI in the Halo: CE remake’s development have raised concerns among players, though the studio insists that “people make games” and that AI “should be additive” to the creative process.

In addition to the Halo: CE remake, a leaker that was accurate about previous Halo announcements suggests that Halo 2 and Halo 3 remakes will also be coming in the future (as well as potential information about Halo 7). However, these leaks are unverified and should be taken with a grain of salt until official confirmation.
