The Bride of Frankenstein Resurrects on a New Streamer Before Its 2026 Remake Arrives

The spooky season isn’t ending just yet! November arrives with many classics and new horror movies on various streaming services to continue to satiate fans’ appetite for gore, violence, and fear. Among them is James Whale’s iconic The Bride of Frankenstein, starring Elsa Lanchester as the titular heroine. The movie will be a great rewatch as fans of the genre wait for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s remake titled The Bride!

Fans can stream The Bride of Frankenstein on HBO Max starting November 1, per ComicBook. The movie is a direct sequel to Universal’s Frankenstein and follows Dr. Frankenstein as he is persuaded by his former mentor, Dr. Pretorius, to resume his experiments in creating a bride for the Monster. Meanwhile, the Monster remains on the run from those who wish to destroy him. The feature was a massive hit commercially and critically.

It has a 98% Rotten Tomatoes rating from the critics and 87% from audiences. Today, the movie is hailed as one of the best horror sequels ever, as well as Whale’s masterpiece. It has amazing performances and cinematography, and has influenced generations of filmmakers.

What Is ‘The Bride’ About?

Thankfully, we know quite a lot now. A trailer has been unveiled by the makers that gives off vibrant, violent, and Bonnie and Clyde vibes. Most main characters are introduced in the Bride’s origin story: She falls down a set of stairs to her death. Gyllenhaal previously revealed her idea behind the new adaptation that she “was looking for something pop and big, and I wanted it to be radical at the same time. I didn’t quite know what I wanted it to be.” She further hinted at the “wild disobedience” of the character, adding:

“This kind of ask that Frankenstein has, ‘I’ll just take a bride’… and what happens when that Bride comes back is beyond his wildest imagination and doesn’t fit into the box he had for her. I think that all of us have a little aspect of something monstrous in us. The monsters in our movie do monstrous things, but they’re also our heroes.”

Gyllenhaal has assembled a stacked cast of compelling performers for The Bride! — including Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley,Penélope Cruz, Annette Bening, Julianne Hough, and Jeannie Berlin. Further rounding out the cast are Jake Gyllenhaal, Linda Emond, Louis Cancelmi, Matthew Maher and many more.

The Bride of Frankenstein will be available on HBO Max starting November 1. The Bride! will be released in theaters on March 6, 2026. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
