JasonStatham is gearing up for another explosive solo mission and after quite the delay, at least we know exactly when we’re seeing it with the news that Lionsgate has officially set a new release date forMutiny, the upcoming action thriller directed by Jean-François Richet (Plane). The movie is now hitting theaters on August 21, 2026, and follows a reshuffle in the studio’s schedule that sees Gerard Butler’s Greenland 2: Migration taking over the January slot previously held by Mutiny.
Mutiny stars the Stath as Cole Reed, a man framed for the brutal murder of his billionaire boss. On the run and determined to clear his name, Reed boards a cargo ship for what becomes a one-man crusade for vengeance — only to discover an international conspiracy that stretches far beyond what he imagined. This is just a regular weekday for Statham by this point, surely?
In classic Statham fashion, the film is going to have a barrage of gunfire, explosions, and high-speed chases. And while there may be no bees this time around (sorry Beekeeper fans, at least you got some good news this week), expect the usual dose of gritty action and razor-sharp one-liners.
Who Else Is Involved with ‘Mutiny’?
The cast also includesAnnabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders), Roland Møller (Skyscraper), Ramon Tikaram, Arnas Fedaravičius, Jason Wong (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), and Adrian Lester (Trigger Point).
The film is written by Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis, with Statham producing under his Punch Palace Productions banner alongside Marc Butan of MadRiver Pictures.
Richet is no stranger to intense, confined thrillers as a director. His last outing, Plane, starred Gerard Butler — ironically, the same actor whose new movie Greenland 2: Migration has bumped Mutiny from its original January release. How could you, Gerry?
Statham has been on a serious run lately. His last movie with David Ayer, A Working Man, grossed just under $100 million worldwide and earned an impressive 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes — though it fell short of the massive success of The Beekeeper, which pulled in $162 million globally.
By moving Mutiny to August, Lionsgate is setting it up for a prime box office window that’s less crowded and more in line with Statham’s proven track record as a late-summer action draw. The only competition currently slated for that date is Sony and Blumhouse’s next Insidious movie, leaving Mutiny with plenty of room to make waves.
Mutiny will open on August 21, 2025.
