The current setup of the MCU and its story around one particular hero means the franchise ideally can’t have said protagonist face off against Doctor Doom unless the plan is to kill him off in Avengers: Doomsday anyway. Over the course of the MCU timeline, we’ve been introduced to a thrilling and harrowing number of Marvel heroes and villains, with a range of different skillsets.
Of course, some of the MCU’s heroes have been more powerful than others – and some are so powerful that they present narrative challenges in terms of ensuring viewers feel like a movie or show’s conflicts are engaging and suitably balanced. With this in mind, it seems the MCU’s best choice would be to ensure one MCU hero and Doctor Doom don’t actively fight one another.
One Lone MCU Scene Means It’d Raise Way Too Many Questions To Have One Hero Face Off Against Doctor Doom In Avengers: Doomsday
In the build-up to Avengers: Doomsday‘s release date, there are a lot of powerful characters we can hope we may get to see face off against Doctor Doom – with figures like Thor, Sentry, and the Hulk being some frontrunners. However, the hero who was set up to theoretically have the easiest way to deal with Doom has a different kind of power: self-awareness.
As the MCU’s current most meta superhero – since even Deadpool hasn’t been able to break the fourth wall quite so dramatically in his movies quite yet – She-Hulk‘s finale sees the titular hero channel her unique nature to literally break the fourth wall between her television show and a version of reality, leading her to confront K.E.V.I.N. – a robot-icized version of MCU overseer Kevin Feige.
She-Hulk is not only able to discuss the MCU with K.E.V.I.N. and challenge him about the franchise, but is also able to essentially change reality and rewrite history by getting K.E.V.I.N. to rewrite the show’s ending.
With this context in mind, pitting She-Hulk against Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday seems like an effectively impossible scenario for the MCU, since it would raise too many questions about why She-Hulk can’t do the same there to beat the villain – and while these could be addressed, even providing an excuse here likely wouldn’t remove the concept from the minds of many.
Why She-Hulk Would Still Make Sense As Part Of The Cast Of Avengers: Doomsday & Avengers: Secret Wars
Of course, the complications around She-Hulk and Doctor Doom facing off doesn’t mean the hero needs or has to be removed from the equation entirely when it comes to Avengers: Doomsday – and there are a lot of solid reasons for the MCU to choose to include the character in the upcoming Avengers movies.
Jennifer Walters’ immense power and meta awareness of the nature of reality does put her in a unique position wherein she’d be an especially valuable figure for the next Avengers movies to use – since she’d be exciting to see in more fights, be able to use her knowledge to no doubt provide some insights into the MCU multiverse, and could build on the Hulk’s own story alongside her own.
As such, putting She-Hulk in the Avengers films in this capacity without having her and Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom cross direct paths fight-wise would make a lot of sense – and could be key in letting the MCU build up its newer heroes as it begins to develop what the new era for the franchise looks like from Avengers: Doomsday onward.
