Halfway through its third season, Tulsa King has passed a major streaming milestone. The show’s latest season has completed a month on the Paramount+ domestic top 10 charts, battling perennial hit South Park and several of creator Taylor Sheridan‘s own shows. Sheridan has delivered a string of hits for Paramount+ over the years, establishing himself as one of the biggest moguls in the streaming industry. Tulsa King features Sylvester Stallone as a mob boss who sets up a new empire in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after being released from prison. The new season, which premiered in September, has been met with mixed reactions from fans.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the new season’s audience score has spiraled to 61%, although the official critics’ score is still standing at a rather solid 86%. By comparison, the second season received a perfect 100% critics’ score, while the first season is sitting at a “certified fresh” 79% score on the aggregator. Like most of Sheridan’s work, the previous two seasons were embraced by audiences. Even the third season has clearly been a viewership hit, considering its latest achievement, but certain plot developments have divided hardcore fans.
In his review of the latest season, Collider’s Jeff Ewing described it as the best installment of the show so far, writing that it “boasts greater involvement and development of some key, formerly underutilized players, which benefits its storytelling.” Sheridan’s fans now have the new season of Mayor of Kingstown, starring Jeremy Renner, to look forward to. Following that, they will get the long-awaited second season of Landman, starring Billy Bob Thornton. These are all blockbuster shows, and Sheridan has somehow been riding the wave with a striking batting average for the past several years.
Taylor Sheridan Has Set a High Bar for Himself
His streak of success began with Yellowstone, which has inspired a handful of spin-offs, with more on the way. But after that show ended abruptly following a dispute with star Kevin Costner that is still unfolding to this day, Sheridan knocked out one new hit after another. Besides these series, he also delivered Lioness, which has aired two seasons so far. Sheridan is an Oscar-nominated writer who previously worked as an actor. He has won acclaim not only for his streaming work, but also for writing the films Sicario and Hell or High Water.
