Netflix’s New #1 Movie Is a 100% RT Stunner That’s Beating Liam Neeson, Keira Knightley, and the Minions

After months upon months of the absolute domination displayed by KPop Demon Hunters, itself an unusual blockbuster, an even more unlikely champion has emerged. For the last week, the new documentary film The Perfect Neighbor has been ruling the Netflix charts, beating out not only KPop Demon Hunters but a bunch of past hits featuring major stars. It’s not often that you see a documentary displaying numbers like this, especially one that doesn’t follow Netflix’s self-established tropes for the true crime genre. But The Perfect Neighbor remains the streamer’s most popular film domestically, and the second-most-watched worldwide.

According to FlixPatrol, The Perfect Neighbor is outperforming the streamer’s all-time number one film KPop Demon Hunters, the Keira Knightley-led mystery The Woman in Cabin 10, Liam Neeson‘s action film The A-Team, and the animated sequel Despicable Me 3. Having premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, where it won a prestigious award, The Perfect Neighbor was picked up for distribution by the streamer for a reported $5 million. Directed by Geeta Gandbhir, it tracks the growing resentments among a community in Florida, after the arrival of a new neighbor. The neighbor, a middle-aged white woman named Susan, repeatedly calls the cops on the children in the community, complaining that they’ve been harassing her. Things escalate to the point of tragedy when a person is murdered in cold blood.

‘The Perfect Neighbor’ Is Among the Best-Reviewed Films of 2025

What sets the film apart from other true crime titles on Netflix is that it is presented almost entirely through police bodycam footage. The Perfect Neighbor addresses themes of gun violence, racism, and the controversial Stand Your Ground law. It has been universally acclaimed and is sitting at a perfect 100% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. The critics’ consensus reads, “As gripping as it is deeply unsettling, The Perfect Neighbor lays bare the systemic failures and the quiet terror embedded in American legal systems with surgical precision.” In her review, Collider’s Emma Kiely highly recommended the film, describing it as “one of the most compelling documents of how inherently dangerous it is for Black people to exist in America today.

The Perfect Neighbor is streaming on Netflix. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
