All 42 Ball Evolutions & 8 Passive Evolutions In Ball x Pit

A key part of winning a run in Ball x Pit is evolving your items, both special balls and passives. The indie game has become a breakout hit on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox (don’t forget its day-one addition to Game Pass), but finding new special balls as you descend into the pit is just the beginning. Not every special ball and passive will be available when starting out – many are locked behind your lift level. Win runs with different characters to increase your lift level and unlock new biomes.

To perform an evolution, you need two compatible special balls or two compatible passives, then a Fusion Reactor. Evolution is only possible if your items are level three – level up or use fission (also possible via the Fusion Reactor) to get your gear to max level. Not every combination of special ball or passive is eligible for evolution, though. If you have two max-level special balls, and they are not compatible for evolution, you can fuse them instead, combining the two balls but not creating a new one.

Fusing two balls can still be very powerful, freeing one of your four special ball slots so you can pick up another.

In total, there are 42 special ball evolutions. Most only require two special balls, but some need at least one evolved ball. The most difficult to acquire is Nosferatu (shout-out Robert Eggers’ stunning film of the same name), which needs three separate evolved balls, each at level three themselves, to be combined; this is the only three-ball evolution in Ball x Pit.
